Buffs Polish Off Record Fall Season At Nanea

KAILUA KONA, Hawai'i – Colorado women's golf put the finishing touches on a record-setting fall season, tying for sixth place at the Nanea Invitational at even-par 876, as the final round wrapped up Wednesday at the Nanea Golf Club.
The Buffaloes shot 2-over, 294, for the second-straight day and in the process put the rubber stamp on the best fall season by stroke average in team history. Colorado's stroke average in five tournaments this fall is 73.29, topping the old record of 73.60 set in 2023. The top three fall stroke averages for the Buffaloes have come in the last three seasons.
Colorado, ranked No. 43 in the nation in the latest NCAA Scoreboard rankings released Wednesday, caught one of the two teams it was chasing for a potential top-five finish, and it was a significant one. The Buffaloes were one shot better than No. 15 UCLA in the third round to match the Bruins at even for the 54-hole tournament. California had an even-par day to finish at 3-under, capturing sole possession of the fifth spot.
Top-ranked Stanford used a monstrous third-round score of 23-under to run away with the team title at 44-under. No. 20 Arizona State was second at 25-under, followed by No. 7 Auburn (-21) and No. 11 Texas (-19).
"It was a really strong performance by the team this week," Colorado head coach Madeleine Sheils said. "The scores are incredibly low in women's golf overall, the scores Stanford shot were insane, but we were 19 strokes better than we did at this tournament last year and we tied a top 20 team. It was a very positive week."
The Buffaloes were seventh at last year's Nanea Invitational at 19-over. Colorado's even-par 54-hole performance this year tied its best effort in 11 trips to Nanea, matching the 2018-19 team that tied for third with that same score.
Junior Carolyn Fuller went wire-to-wire as Colorado's top golfer at Nanea, tying for 16th at 3-under, 216. She had her highest of three rounds on Wednesday at 1-over, 74, but it was more than enough to cement her fourth top 20 finish in five tournaments this fall.
Fuller had a slow start, shooting 4-under through her first seven holes, but regained her momentum with three birdies and three pars between the 13th and 18th to get back to 1-over and finished by playing even over the last five holes.
Freshman Teemapat Pateetin had the team's best single round on Wednesday, shooting 3-under, 70, her best score in relation to par in her young CU career. She enjoyed a bogey-free round, making par on 15 holes and adding birdies on a trio of par 4s at the second, seventh and the 17th.
"I was especially happy for Teem who struggled a little bit the first couple of days," Sheils said. "I was so happy to see her go bogey-free and shoot under par, that really helped us out today."
Pateetin's third-career sub-par round was rewarded with her second top 20 finish of the season as she tied Arizona State's Kate Dillon for the 20th spot at 2-under, 217.
Sophomore Vanessa Ngo tied for 26th overall at even-par, 219, after carding a 1-over round of 74 on Wednesday. Ngo was 1-over early, then got back into the red with birdies at the 12th and 14th. She dropped back to 1-over at the 15th, but then steadied from there with nine-straight pars to end her round.
Sophomore Ellen O'Shaughnessy tied for 40th at 5-over, 224, after shooting a 76 on Wednesday. Junior Maya McVey tied for 54th at 12-over, 231, matching her second-day score with a round of 76.
Individually, the top spot was shared by Auburn's Anna Davis, Texas' Cindy Hsu and Stanford's Meja Ortengren at 10-under, 209.
Colorado will open the spring portion of its season at the Collegiate Invitational at the Guadalajara Country Club in Guadalajara, Mexico, Jan. 30-31, 2026.
