WACO, Texas — Colorado women's golf wrapped up the 2025-26 season with a ninth-place finish at the NCAA Waco Regional, which concluded Wednesday at the Ridgewood Country Club.
The Buffaloes stayed true to their No. 9 regional seeding, jumping up one spot during the final round, finishing at 34-over-par for the 54-hole event on the par-70 Ridgewood course. Colorado equaled its second-round score on Wednesday, finishing at 11-over and in the process passing Tarleton State, which finished at 37-over following a 17-over final round.
"We didn't achieve our goal of getting through (to the finals)," Colorado head coach Madeleine Sheils said. "We didn't play the way we wanted to this week, but there's no doubt it was an incredibly positive learning experience, because this whole group returns next year and now they know what it feels like. They now have this belief that we truly belong."
No. 21 SMU won the Waco Regional at 17-under, claiming a six-stroke win over top seed and No. 4 nationally ranked Texas A&M which finished at 11-under. Host and No. 26 Baylor finished third at even-par and No. 36 LSU was fourth at 1-over. Those four teams and No. 16 Tennessee advance to the NCAA Finals May 22-27, at the Omni La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, Calif. Tennessee and No. 49 Tulsa finished tied for fifth at 7-over with the Volunteers winning in a playoff for the final nationals spot.
Junior Maya McVey finished as Colorado's low golfer, tying for 28th overall at 4-over, shooting an even-par 70 for the second time in three days. Starting on the back, McVey was 1-over through her first nine holes. She got back to even with a birdie on the par-4 second. McVey made par on the next four holes before dropping back to 1-over with a bogey at the par-4 seventh. She moved back to even once more, and for good, with a birdie on her final hole, the 528-yard par-5 ninth.
Junior Carolyn Fuller finished tied for 39th overall at 8-over, shooting 74 on Wednesday. Fuller made par on 14 of 18 holes, but the scoring opportunities just didn't surface for the final round, finishing without a birdie.
Sophomore Ellen O'Shaughnessy had a nice bounce-back round, shaving 10 strokes off her second round score with a 71 on Wednesday. O'Shaughnessy was 3-over through seven before making her first birdie at the par-4 17th. She fell back to 3-over on the par-4 first, but proceeded to par her next seven holes before closing out her season in style with an eagle at the ninth.
O'Shaughnessy finished tied for 51st at 16-over along with freshman Teemapat Pateetin who carded a 78 in the final round to match the spot in the standings. Freshman Ananthi Vivek one stroke back at 17-over with a final round 76.
"This whole week was a positive step forward," Sheils said. "I reminded them as disappointing as it was to be there and not advance, we've felt the sting in more recent years sitting there at home and not getting the chance to compete. So we enjoyed the competition this week no doubt and I learned a lot as a coach as well and we're going to use this as something to build on."
Vanessa Borovilos of Texas A&M was the individual medalist at 10-under, claiming the title by four strokes after posting a 65 in the final round. TCU's Kirstin Angosta was the runner-up at 6-under after consecutive rounds of 66 on Tuesday and Wednesday and was the low individual to advance to the NCAA Finals.
