Buffaloes Add Seven Skiers to 2018-19 Roster

July 30, 2018 | Skiing

The additions include four Colorado natives, one 2018 Winter Olympian and one other with FIS World Cup experience

BOULDER — The 2018-19 University of Colorado skiing roster is beginning to take shape as head coach Richard Rokos announced Monday the addition of seven new student-athletes, which included the addition of one Olympian and another with World Cup experience.

Of the seven additions, five are being added to the men's team and two to the women's. The breakdown is three men's alpine skiers, two men's Nordic and two women's alpiners. The 2018-19 roster is not yet finalized and further additions will be announced as the beginning of the 2018-19 academic year approaches.

"We are replacing a couple of key skiers, on the Nordic side with Petter Reistad and Petra Hyncicova, and on the alpine side we are losing Tonje Trulsrud, we are losing David Ketterer and Ola Johansen," Rokos said. "It's always a challenge to replace and you never know exactly at what level will new generation substitute the old one, obviously not as much in terms of experience, but it might be more enthusiasm so we will see how it goes. Those are key elements, bringing in a couple of new kids and we will see how they can blend. With all the enthusiasm I believe we will have a strong and competitive team."

Filip Forejtek from the Czech Republic National Team will be coming to CU fresh off his 2018 Winter Olympic experience in PyeongChang where he placed 31st in the slalom and 34th in the giant slalom. He and another men's alpine skier, Teddy Takki from Finland, both have previous FIS World Cup experience under their belts.

They will help to replace the loss of Ola Johansen and David Ketterer on the men's alpine team. Johansen, the 2016 and 2018 RMISA MVP, completed his final season of eligibility last winter while Ketterer, who was ranked as high as No. 31 in the world in the slalom last winter, is leaving CU to race full-time on the FIS World Cup circuit.

The additions of Olivia Gerrard and Kaitlyn Harsch, both from the Ski and Snowboard Club Vail, will help bolster the women's alpine team who loses Tonje Trulsrud, also the 2018 RMISA MVP, as she completed her eligibility last winter as well. Both Gerrard and Harsch have started in NorAm Cup races in their careers.

Gerrard and Harsch aren't the only two coming from the Ski and Snowboard Club Vail. They are joined by Max Bervy (alpine) on the men's side, and another Colorado product, Wyatt Gebhardt (Nordic), comes to CU from the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club.

The additions will join a group of eight women's skiers (four Nordic, four alpine) and seven men (four Nordic, three alpine) that return from the 2018 team who finished as runner-up at the 2018 NCAA Championship. Among that field of returnees is seven Buffs who raced last winter at the national championships.
