2019 Ski Schedule Includes CU Hosting A Meet At Eldora

Buffs to host their home meet at Eldora (alpine) and Steamboat Springs (Nordic) this winter

BOULDER — The 2019 ski schedule has been released by the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Skiing Association (RMISA) and the season will kick off on Jan. 9 at Eldora when the University of Colorado hosts the CU Invitational.

As the schools across the RMISA rotate in hosting meets each season, CU is back on the hosting block this coming winter after hosting both the RMISA Championships and the NCAA Championships last March in Steamboat Springs. This will be the first regular season meet Colorado has hosted since 2016.

The CU Invitational will run Jan. 9-11 on the alpine side at Eldora and Jan. 12-13 for the Nordic races, which will be held at Howelsen Hill in Steamboat Springs.

The alpine portion of the CU Invite will feature the traditional slalom and giant slalom races, as well as a pilot running of a dual slalom. CU will also be hosting one of two giant slalom qualifiers on the season during the opening weekend at Eldora.

"It is good to be home and race again at Eldora," Colorado head coach Richard Rokos said. "Unfortunately, Nordi's will not go there because the Nordic center is not as big and cannot accommodate that type of race, but one thing that we'll have (at Eldora) is a pilot race on dual slalom format, which should in a year or so become NCAA format as well to balance Nordic sprints, so we'll see how this goes."

The qualifier races - for Nordic and alpine - are used as an extra opportunity for skiers to earn qualification points for the NCAA Championships at the end of the season.

Rokos, who enters his 29th season leading the Buffs, is excited about competing up at Eldora, which is just 21 miles outside of Boulder.

"It is exciting and I think Eldora is equally enthusiastic about it," Rokos said. "In fact, Eldora even offered to host NorAm's. They are looking to host better and higher quality races."

The other schools hosting meets during the 2019 regular season include Montana State, New Mexico and Alaska Anchorage. UAA will also host the 2019 RMISA Championships/NCAA West Regional as well.

The 2019 NCAA Championships will be held back east this season, with Vermont serving as the host school and the national championship being held in Stowe, Vt. at the Trapp Family Lodge and Stowe Mountain.
