Weather:
- A chilly night in Boulder to get Pac-12 conference play started for the Buffs. It's cloudy with temperatures in the mid-40's tonight with 5 mph gusts from the northeast.
Pregame
- Colorado starts conference play tonight against the UCLA Bruins, as the Buffaloes come off a bye week.
- CU look to go 4-0 for the first time since 1998 while the Bruins are looking for their first win of the season after starting 0-3.
- The Buffs look to start off tonight's game by scoring on their opening drive for the fourth consecutive time.
First Quarter:
- CU wins the toss and elects to defer. UCLA to receive.
- Price kicks it off and we're underway from Folsom. Touchback.
- Drew Lewis sacks Thompson-Robinson with a vengeance and forces UCLA to punt. The Bruins were able to rush for a first down on an 11-yard gain to start the game.
- Steven Montez and the Buffs go three-and-out on their first drive of the game. A nine-yard rush by Travon McMillian was the only highlight play in the drive. UCLA returns the punt into Colorado territory at the 47.
- TOUCHDOWN UCLA. Thompson-Robinson finds Ezekie over the shoulder for the score from 11 yards out. An eight play, 47-yard drive that involved some key moments, including a 17-yard rush by Thompson-Robinson after getting sacked by Lewis on the first play of the drive. Evan Worthington was flagged for a personal foul after the 17-yard rush, giving the Bruins a scoring opportunity in CU's red zone. 7-0 UCLA, 7:20 left. CU start its next drive at the 15.
- TOUCHDOWN Colorado. A Montez deep ball finds the wide-open hands of Laviska Shenault Jr. from 57 yards out. CU answer back on five play, 85-yard drive that took only 2:20 off the clock. The Buffs got out of jail early in the drive thanks to a defensive pass interference call on third down in CU territory. Buffs tie it up at seven with five minutes left. UCLA start the its 25.
- CU limits the Bruins to a field goal on the drive as Molson's kick from 22 yards is good. An 11 play, 71-yard drive that took four minutes, 30 seconds. Thompson-Robinson was able to get UCLA out of trouble on third down near midfield on a nine-yard completion into CU territory. Kelley went on to set UCLA up in the red zone after a 29-yard rush. CU start at the 25. 57 seconds left. 10-7 UCLA.
- END OF THE FIRST QUARTER.
Second Quarter:
- CU's drive to start the second quarter is halted after a string of short rushes and completions. A personal foul was initially called on the Bruins on third down, but was later waived off to force the Buffaloes to punt. 13:54 left. UCLA ball at its 15.
- Worthington makes a nice pass breakup to force fourth down in UCLA territory. Kelley became the workhorse on the ground for the Bruins on the drive with 30 total rushing yards on the drive. UCLA punt into the end zone for a touchback. 12:04 left.
- TOUCHDOWN Colorado. Montez rushes it in from 10 yards out on a play-action keeper. Caps off a 12 play, 80-yard drive taking 5:51. A methodically sound drive involving effective rushes from McMillian and key completions from Montez to his arsenal of receivers. Colorado take a 14-10 lead with 6:13 left. UCLA ball at the 25.
- Molson makes a 50-yard field goal from the left hash to cut CU's lead to one. 11 plays, 42 yards on the drive including a 4th down conversion near midfield on a six-yard rush by Irby. 1:34 left in the half. 14-13 CU.
- Colorado was on the verge of another scoring drive, but were halted as the half ends with Colorado leading at the break, 14-13. After getting to midfield while preserving the game clock, Montez made a completion to Jay MacIntyre 30 yards down into the red zone as MacIntyre had to fight for possession with Meadors. An unnecessary roughness penalty on Brett Tonz during that play however pushed the Buffs back into their own territory and the game clock expired to end the half. 14-13 CU.
- END OF HALF.
Third Quarter:
- CU to receive the kickoff, returned by K.D. Nixon to the CU 25.
- Colorado's first drive will result in a punt. McMillian claimed a 15-yard rush to get the ball near midfield on 1st and 10 from the CU 35. The Buffs lined up with Shenault in the wildcat formation on 3rd and 6, but Shenault was unable to get to the first down marker. Price punts it to the UCLA 10. 12:37 left.
- Molson's 40-yard field goal attempt is good to give the Bruins a 16-14 lead. The drive took 6 plays for 66 yards, which involved a 44-yard rush from Kelley to get to the Colorado 20-yard line. Kelley now has seven rushes on 110 yards. 10:36 left. Kickoff goes through the end zone for a touchback.
- TOUCHDOWN Colorado. Shenault runs it in from a yard out on third down in the wildcat formation. A couple of key plays happened during the seven play, 75-yard drive. One of them being a 17-yard completion from Montez to Shenault to get into UCLA territory. The other one was a trick play involving Montez throwing a lateral to MacIntyre on the right side who then threw a deep ball to Kyle Evans for a gain of 31. 7:54 left. 21-16 CU.
- Colorado force UCLA to go three-and-out for the first time tonight. UCLA punts to Ronnie Blackmon who calls for a fair catch at the CU 33.
- TOUCHDOWN Colorado. McMillian rushes it in up the gut from six yards out. Concludes a lengthy 13 play, 67-yard scoring drive. Montez made a crucial scramble on 3rd and 5 from the UCLA 17, avoiding three tackles near the line of scrimmage and getting a gain of 11 to set up the McMillian scoring run. Shenault made a few receptions on the drive bringing his totals to 120 receiving yards on 10 catches, while Montez is having another solid night going 19-23 and throwing for 188 yards. 28-16 CU. 1:04 left.
- END OF THIRD QUARTER.
Fourth Quarter:
- Lewis' productive night defensively almost got better as an errant throw by Thompson-Robinson hit right off the hands of Lewis and fell incomplete. Nevertheless Colorado force the Bruins to go three-and-out for the second time tonight. CU will start its next drive at the CU 25. 14:45 left.
- Despite a 53-yard completion to Tony Brown to get into UCLA territory, the Buffs have to settle for three as James Stefanou hits a 41-yard field goal to extend the Colorado lead to 15. 31-16 CU. 11:46 remaining. Price kicks it into the end zone for a touchback.
- Colorado for the third straight time tonight force UCLA to go three-and-out. Thompson-Robinson threw a nice ball right into the hands of Philips who can't make the play on 3rd down. CU now looks to make it a three-score game as they have the ball at the 37 with 10:16 left.
- TOUCHDOWN Colorado. Montez executes an excellent read option that fooled a vast majority of fans. He rushes it up the left side from 35-yards out and puts the Buffs in a great position. McMillian set up the score with 23 yards rushing during the drive prior to Montez' rush. McMillian now has 18 rushes on 94 yards and a touchdown for the night. 7:15 left. 38-16 CU.
- The Buffs prevent UCLA from crossing midfield as it's a short-lived drive for the Bruins. Davion Taylor made a big sack, unblocked from the left side for a loss of nine during the drive. The Buffs have the ball at the 21 with 5:18 left to play.
- The Buffaloes go three-and-out for the first time since Colorado's opening drive of the game. Price punts it to the UCLA 29. 2:50 remaining.
- The Bruins turn the ball over on downs and Tyler Lytle will come into the game at quarterback to finish the game. Buffaloes are in victory formation.
