Rudy Continues to Train With The 2019 U.S. U19 National Team
January 31, 2019 | Lacrosse
SPARKS, Md. — University of Colorado freshman Charlie Rudy is one of 23 players selected to continue training with the 2019 U.S. U19 Women's Lacrosse National Team following last weekend's Spring Premiere in California.
Â
The U19 training team attended the Spring Premier last weekend, a six-team women's event featuring the U.S. senior and U19 teams, national teams from Japan and England, and college teams from Fresno State and Stanford. The U19 team held practice sessions and scrimmages and competed in exhibition games against Japan, England and Stanford.
Â
Rudy was one of 110 players that participated in tryouts for the team last summer. That pool was whittled down to 34 for the training weekend and from there, 23 were selected to continue training. The team will be narrowed down to 18 prior to the 2019 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) Women's U19 World Championship, which will be held August 1-10, in Peterborough, Canada.
Â
The U.S. has two more training camps schedule before the FIL Championships, which will take place following the 2019 high school and collegiate seasons. Players will reconvene at the national team training center at US Lacrosse headquarters in Sparks, Md., the weekend of June 7-9, and then at Northwestern University from July 8-10.
Â
The United States has won four of the six previous FIL Women's U19 championships held (1999, 2003, 2007, 2011) while Australia (1995) and Canada (2015) have each won once.
