LOS ANGELES – Colorado soccer's swing through Los Angeles got off to a slow start on Thursday. The Buffaloes could not overcome the offense of UCLA, falling 3-0.Â

UCLA jumped on Colorado early, outshooting the Buffs 12-1 in the first half. Colorado was unable to find an attack until after allowing the UCLA goal. Senior Stephanie Zuniga posted CU's first shot of the evening in the 31st minute.
The Bruins finished the night with 25 shots, landing 11 on net. The Buffs were held to just two shots all night.Â
How it happened
Tompkins got in on the action early. A failed clearing attempt in the third minute led to an early Bruins' chance and a save from Tompkins. She came up big again in the 20th minute, changing directions to make a save in the 20th minute off a shot that was deflected.Â
UCLA got off six shots in the first 20 minutes, forcing Tompkins to make three early saves.Â
The Bruins would breakthrough in the 25th minute. Tompkins went in the air to punch out the service from a corner kick. She got a piece of the ball but not enough as the ball bounced off a UCLA player and on to Lucy Parker for the header goal.
The Buffs trailed 1-0 at the break with the game still in reach.Â
Colorado got an early chance to tie the game in the second half. Sophomore Hannah Sharts served in a free kick to Taylor Kornieck. Kornieck got a piece of the ball, sending it wide.
The Bruins' second goal came in the 53rd minute off the foot of Mia FIshel. She touched the ball past Tompkins from two yards out on a cross in front. Â
Tompkins had little chance on UCLA's third tally. The ball served up across the field, forcing Tompkins to commit to the shot. The volley from Ashley Sanchez went back across the mouth of the goal and inside the right post.Â
Junior Haileigh Adams had CU's best chance of the night in the 88th minute. Chaynee Kingsbury drove in down the right sideline and crossed the ball towards the far post. Adams met the ball and put a left-footed chance just wide of the post.

Quotes
Head coach Danny Sanchez
Overall thoughts
"Obviously, UCLA is a quality team. They had a couple of hiccups in the results, but everyone knows they are quality. I thought we started well, and we had a good stretch. It was disappointing to give up that goal off the second phase of the set-piece that we talked a lot about. But going to the half 1-0 I thought we came out really good to start the second half. To give up that goal early in the second half was kind of the nail in the coffin for us. I thought we played well in stretches but we just didn't do enough to get a result. It's a fair result and we have to focus on getting ready for USC on Sunday."
On Jalen Tompkins
"I think she would be disappointed with the first goal, but she kept us in the game early. She made a couple of good saves early, but we needed to play a really good game and we played an okay game"
On looking forward to USC
"I think we need to be more confident with the ball going forward. As generic as that sounds, we just need to be better. We need our passes to be better. Our defending needs to be better. Our goalkeeping needs to be better. They [USC] is just as good, if not better [than UCLA]. We have two days to get ready. We are excited to get out there Sunday and compete."Â
