Klecker And Ewert Named CU Athletes Of The Week, Presented By Arrow

November 07, 2019 | Cross Country, General, Volleyball

BOULDER – Cross country's Joe Klecker and volleyball's Jenna Ewert were named the CU Athletes of the Week, presented by Arrow, for the week of Oct. 28 – Nov. 3.

Klecker, a senior from Minnetonka, Minn., led the Colorado men's cross country team to the 2019 Pac-12 Championship as he won the individual title, becoming the first Buff to win the title on the men's side. It's the first individual men's conference champion for CU since Brent Vaughn won the 2007 Big 12 crown. Klecker ran an excellent race in the windy and cold conditions as the temperature was just 41 degrees when the gun went off. He was near the front of the pack from the get-go and never dropped back. He took the lead around the midway point of the race and hung on for the victory and finished the 8-kilometer race in 23 minutes, 2.7 seconds.

Ewert, a sophomore from Antioch, Calif., was just an assist away from a career-high as she recorded 87 assists, six kills for a .333 hitting percentage, 23 digs and six blocks in a pair of double-double performances this weekend. Ewert helped lead the Buffs to their first two Pac-12 wins against Arizona and Arizona State in a huge weekend sweep.
