Three Former Buffs Make Opening Day Roster For San Diego AAF Team

BOULDER — Three former Colorado standouts will make their Alliance of American Football debut Saturday when the new league opens play.
Wide receiver Nelson Spruce, defensive back Ryan Moeller and linebacker Kenneth Olugbode all made the opening day roster for the San Diego Fleet, one of eight teams in the AAF. Each team in the league will play 10 games this spring, with CBS Sports Network scheduled to broadcast one game per week.
Spruce was a standout wide receiver for the Buffs from 2012-15 and still owns numerous CU receiving records. Moeller played from 2014-17, and was a starter on the 2016 Pac-12 South champion team. Olugbode played from 2013-16, and was a starting linebacker and team captain for the 2016 Buffs.
The Fleet, coached by former St. Louis Rams head coach Mike Martz, will open it season Saturday at San Antonio at 6 p.m.
Other cities with AAF franchises include Arizona (Phoenix), Atlanta, Birmingham, Memphis, Orlando and Salt Lake City. The head coach of the Arizona Hotshots is former CU head coach Rick Neuheisel.
Several former CU assistants are also coaching in the league, including Steve Logan (offensive coordinator/quarterbacks) at Birmingham, Steve Marshall (offensive line) at Memphis and Jim Jeffcoat (defensive line) at Orlando.
Other notable names at the head coaching spots include Mike Singletary (Memphis), Steve Spurrier (Orlando), Dennis Erickson (Salt Lake) and Mike Riley (San Antonio).
