CU Ranked In The Top 10 In Latest Learfield Director's Cup Standings

Buffs Lead The Nation In Points Scored This Winter To Date
CLEVELAND – The University of Colorado has scored more points than any school in the nation this winter in the Learfield Director's Cup, and currently sits No. 7 after the first winter update was released Wednesday.Â

Colorado moved up 13 spots from the final Fall standings released in December. On the strength of a third place finish at the NCAA Ski Championships, earning 85 points, a 16th place finish at the Men's Indoor Track & Field Championships (58.5 points) and a 33rd place finish at the Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships (40.5 points), the Buffs have earned 184 points this winter. CU is just ahead of TCU (177.5) and Florida (173.5) for the most points this winter.  Along with Skiing and Indoor Track & Field, the NCAA Rifle Championships were also included. Â

The No. 7 ranking in the first winter update is the second highest mark in the last five years, with the Buffs coming in at No. 6 after the first winter update in 2006-17 and is just ahead of its eighth-place standing in 2014-15 at this point.Â

The highest the Buffs have been at the conclusion of the winter standings is ninth place in 1996-97 and 1997-98 and 2001-02. Before the final winter standings are computed this season, men's and women's basketball, gymnastics, hockey and swimming & diving along with women's bowling, coed fencing and men's wrestling will be calculated.Â

The 13 spots the Buffs moved up from the final fall to the first winter report is the most in the last five years. In 2015-16, the Buffs moved up eight spots from 28 to 20 and in both 2016-17 (10th to sixth) and 2014-15 (12th to eighth), the Buffs moved up four spots.Â

The Buffs currently have 389 points and rank third in the Pac-12 behind Stanford (first) and Oregon (sixth).  Five Pac-12 teams are currently in the top 17 nationally with USC coming in at No. 11 and Washington taking the 17th spot.Â

The Buffs were ranked No. 20 at the end of the fall season, picking up 100 points for winning the Women's Cross Country National Championship and 80 points for taking fourth in Men's Cross Country. The Buffs also picked up 25 points for Women's Volleyball for its appearance in the NCAA Tournament.Â
