Buffs Shine At 2019 Pro Timing Day

March 06, 2019 | Football

The University of Colorado football team held its annual Pro Timing Day on Wednesday. 34 scouts from 30 NFL teams (and one CFL team) were in attendance to watch 11 former Buffaloes perform a series of workouts.

Players participating included running backs Kyle Evans, Donovan Lee and Travon McMillian, wide receivers Kabion Ento and Juwann Winfree, defensive linemen Javier Edwards and Chris Mulumba, linebackers Drew Lewis and Rick Gamboa, and safeties Nick Fisher and Evan Worthington.

The athletes began by getting official height, weight, hand-size and wingspan measurements, before testing their bench press.

Several Buffs turned in impressive marks on the bench press. Most notably, Javier Edwards put up 31 reps, a mark that would have ranked fifth among the defensive linemen at last weekend's NFL combine, while running backs Kyle Evans (26) and Travon McMillian (22) put up numbers that would have tied for third and sixth, respectively, among running backs.

Next, players tested their vertical and broad jumps. Kabion Ento led the way in the vertical with a mark of 41.5", which would have ranked third among wide receivers at the NFL combine. Drew Lewis posted the longest broad jump at 10'9", another mark that compares favorably (second among linebackers) to those at the NFL combine.

The athletes finished formal testing on the field, participating in the 40-yard dash, Pro Shuttle and L-Drill, before concluding the event with position drills. McMillian posted the fastest 40-yard dash of the day with a 4.47, followed by Evans, Lewis and Winfree, who each posted times of 4.50. Evans led the way in both the Pro Shuttle (4.17) and L-Drill (6.93), with Winfree following shortly behind in both drills.

The 2019 NFL Draft will take place April 25-27 in Nashville, Tennessee.

Quotable:

Drew Lewis on how he felt today:
"It was fun. The first initial feeling was – I'm excited. I put over two months into training just for three hours to go and show out. You kind of just hope you do well in that limited time, and I feel like I did. I felt like I showed the scouts what I'm capable of doing. At this point, I've just got to play the waiting game for another month and see what happens."

Juwann Winfree on feedback from scouts:
"They were happy. They were impressed that I followed up my performance out in Los Angeles in January. Everyone was questioning my speed and I feel like I did the job today. Some got me at 4.5 flat (40-yard time), I was trying to get that 4.4 but it was close. I feel like I got the job done and I hope that gave them a closer look to what I can do."
