CU Student-Athletes Celebrated At Annual First Year Program Dinner
April 22, 2019 | General
The University of Colorado held its annual First Year Celebration Dinner earlier this month, an event celebrating the end of student-athlete's first academic year at CU.
The event is the culmination of the athletic department's First Year Program, which includes various meetings and functions throughout the year. The program is geared towards connecting first-year student athletes and preparing them for future success, both on and off the field.
In addition to dinner, the event featured a panel of upperclassmen that included Eriana Henderson (track & field), Alex Kinney (football), D'Shawn Schwartz (men's basketball), Gabby Scott (track & field) and J.J. Tompkins (soccer), as well as a keynote speech from Associate AD Lance Carl.
While the event is a celebration of first-year student-athlete's accomplishments, they are also challenged to look forward and think about the legacy they will one day leave. Student-athletes participated in a handful of activities, including brainstorming advice they would give to next year's First Year Program and writing down personal goals that they will revisit a year from now.
As they move forward, this year's class of first-year student-athletes joins a range of distinguished alumni who have gone on to do everything from being NFL draft picks to landing jobs with Goldman Sachs.
