April 09, 2019 | Volleyball

BOULDER – The University of Colorado volleyball team has added three more to the 2019 recruiting class, bringing the total of new players into the program to eight thus far.

CU welcomes Katie Lougeay (DS/L | Encinitas, Calif.), Savannah Perry (DS/L | Ames, Iowa) and Kelley Levaggi (OH/RS | Portola Valley, Calif.). They join the four signed in the fall and transfer Leah Clayton.

"We couldn't be more excited to have Katie, Savannah and Kelley join the Buff family," said head coach Jesse Mahoney. "All three are excellent volleyball players and students, but most importantly they are great people who will represent our program well.  This group adds to an already deep and talented 2019 class that will have a large impact on Colorado volleyball for years to come."

Lougeay is a 5-10 defensive specialist and libero from La Costa Canyon High School. Lougeay helped lead her team to three league championships as a freshman, sophomore and junior. Her team won the CIF Championships in 2015 and was the runner up in the Open CIF Championships in 2016. As a junior she record 116 kills with a .350 kill percentage and a .151 hitting percentage. She played for Wave Volleyball Club, one of the premier junior programs in the nation. Her team competed in the Junior Olympic National Championship for six straight seasons.

Lougeay comes from a strong volleyball background with both of her parents having played for UC-Santa Barbara.

"Katie has played the majority of her career as an outside hitter and has taken that all-around game and aggressive mentality with her into the libero position.," said Mahoney. "She has one of the most natural passing platforms I have seen and the size and range to be an elite defender."

Perry is a 5-6 defensive specialist and libero from Ames High School. Perry also played setter and lead her team in aces and assists as a freshman and sophomore. She missed her junior season from injury but came back as a senior to lead the team in aces and digs. She helped lead the Little Cylones to a regional championship as a senior. On the club level Perry played for Iowa PowerPlex that was ranked seventh in the country in the open division going into USAV Nationals. She attended the USAV Nationals three consecutive years. Perry also played softball where she led the team in batting average as an eighth grader, freshman and sophomore. She was a starting pitcher from eighth grade to her junior season.

Perry is the great-granddaughter of former CU football coach Dal Ward. When she graduates she will be the 17th member of her family to graduate from the University of Colorado. Perry lived in Corvallis, Oregon, for 10 years where Ward played baseball, football and basketball. Her cousin Brian Ward Kettler was a tennis player for CU and her other cousin Lee Ann Knaurt swam for Northwestern.

"Savannah is a fearless defender – I love watching her fly around the court sacrificing her body to keep balls alive.," said Mahoney. "She plays with a competitive edge when she's on the floor and is a vocal leader in the backrow."

Levaggi is a 6-0 outside hitter and right side that played for Saint Francis High School in Mountain View, Calif. She lettered for the Lancers twice and led the team to a 22-14 record as a senior. She was named First Team All-League her senior season after putting down 369 kills with a .415 kill percentage. Her junior year she had 211 kills and a .398 kill percentage. She also had a .252 hitting percentage and 164 digs and 54 aces.

"Kelley is a bit of a late bloomer who has the potential to be a very talented six-rotation outside hitter," said Mahoney. "She has the tools to be a very good passer and defender, as well as the athleticism and arm to score at a high level."
