Stinson Named Pac-12 Attacker Of The Year; Five Named To All-Pac-12 Teams

May 02, 2019 | Lacrosse

BOULDER — University of Colorado senior Miranda Stinson has been named the Pac-12 Attacker of the Year, as announced by the conference on Thursday.

Stinson, along with four others, were selected to the All-Pac-12 Lacrosse teams. Fellow seniors Olivia Aschman (defender) and Samantha Nemirov (attacker) were also named to the first team, while sophomore Sadie Grozier and junior Julia Lisella were chosen for the second team.

Stinson was named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week three times this season and was selected to the Tewaaraton Top-25 list at the end of April. Earlier this season she recorded a CU single-game record with eight goals against California on March 10. In that contest, she scored six goals in the first half, which became the school record for most goals in a half. Stinson equaled that mark one week later, scoring six goals in the first half against Arizona State on March 17. She leads the Buffs this year in points (74), goals (59), free-position goals (18), ground balls (35), caused turnovers (23), shots (147) and shots on goal (106). Stinson is also tied for the team lead in assists (15) and draw controls (51).

She is the conference leader in goals and goals per game (3.47), points per game (4.35), shots per game (8.65) and free-position goals per game (1.06). Nationally, Stinson ranks fourth in shots per game, eighth in shots on goal per game, 14th in goals per game, 15th in goals, 19th in free-position goals per game, 33rd in points per game and 35th in points. This is Stinson's second straight All-Pac-12 first team award. She also earned All-MPSF First Team status in 2017.

Aschman is making her first appearance on the all-conference team. As a defender, she has marked-up several top opponent attackers. Aschman is second on the team with 19 caused turnovers this season, which is fifth in the Pac-12 (1.12 per game). In Pac-12 play, she averaged 1.30 per game (13 total), which was the fourth best mark in the conference. Additionally, Aschman has recorded 22 ground balls.

Nemirov is CU's second leading attacker with 44 goals this season. She is tied for the team lead in assists with 14 and is second with 59 points. She is third in the Pac-12 in goals per game (2.59) and is fourth in points for game (3.47). In conference only games, she was second in goals per game (3.10), third points per game (4.10) and seventh in assists per game (1.00). Nemirov led the Buffs to a 20-13 win to start the Pac-12 season at Stanford with a career-high seven goals, which at the time tied the school record. This is her first all-conference award.

Grozier is third on the team in scoring behind Stinson and Nemirov with 32 goals. She also has nine assists this year for 41 points. On two occasions this season, she scored a career-high five goals. Grozier also tallied a career-best six points against California on April 14 with three goals and three assists. Grozier ranks eighth in the conference in goals per game (1.88), as well as shots per game (5.12). In conference only contests, she was tied for sixth in goals (2.10), ninth in shots per game (5.10) and 10th in points per game (2.70). This is her first All-Pac-12 honor.

Lisella has recorded a 9-7 mark this season, which includes a 7-2 record in the Pac-12. She is second in the league in goals against average (9.35), which is 15th in the NCAA. She is also 20th in the NCAA in save percentage (.485), which ranks fourth in the conference. She is also third in the Pac-12 in saves per game (8.81) and recorded 141 saves this season. Lisella has recorded 10 or more saves in eight games this season. This is Lisella's second All-Pac-12 award; she was named to the first team in 2018.

The Buffs (10-7, 8-2 Pac-12) are awaiting the NCAA Tournament announcement on Sunday, May 5. The selection show, originally scheduled for 7 p.m. MT, will be streamed at NCAA.com at 6 p.m. MT.  If the Buffs are selected, this will be their third straight NCAA appearance.
