Buffs impressive in first friendly

SCEAUX, France — The Colorado soccer team showed little signs of jet lag in its 11-0 win over ES 16 in the Buffaloes first friendly match in France.

The Buffs arrived in Paris mid-Sunday. The team spent Monday roaming the Louvre and exploring the Champs Elysees and Arc de Triomphe after taking in the Eiffel Tower Sunday night.

Colorado set aside the excitement of the trip on Monday and got down to business. The Buffs tallied six goals in the first half, including a two from senior Tatum Barton.

Senior Taylor Kornieck was the first Buff to find the back of the net in the fourth minute. She finished a Stephanie Zuniga corner kick to open the evening. Zuniga added to the lead with a goal of her own in the 16th minute.

CU's lead grew to 3-0 in the 34th minute. Libby Geraghty's corner was deflected by Camilla Shymka and finished with a soft header from Barton. Barton got her second of the night four minutes later in the 38th minute, following up her own rebound off the post.

Kayleigh Webb and Geraghty closed out the half with two more goals to give the Buffs a 6-0 lead at the break.

The Buffs continued the onslaught in the second half. Zuniga hit a breaking Emily Groark in stride and Groark did the rest to push CU's lead to 7-0.

Freshman Kyla Ferry scored two goals in the second half, while Barton finished off her hat trick. Sofia Weiner also had a strong left-foot rocket to round out the scoring.

The Buffs will take in the United States vs. Thailand on Tuesday and will be back in on Wednesday night.
