Shenault Added to Biletnikoff Award Watch List

July 18, 2019 | Football

BOULDER—The watch list accolades keep rolling in for the Colorado Football team.  Junior WR Laviska Shenault Jr. was added to the watch list for the Fred Biletnikoff Award Thursday, presented to the top receiver in college football regardless of position by the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation, Inc.

It's the second watch list for Shenault and the sixth for the Buffs as a team, all announced this week.  On Monday, Shenault and senior QB Steven Montez were added to the Maxwell Award watch list for national player of the year.  LB Nate Landman and DE Mustafa Johnson that day were added to the Bednarik Award watch list for national defensive player of the year.  Then Tuesday, Montez was added to the Davey O'Brien Award watch list, awarded to the nation's top quarterback.

Shenault set 12 school records a season ago, bursting onto the nation scene as one of the top receivers and overall threats in the nation.  Prior to a midseason injury, he was a consensus midseason first-team All-American. He led the nation in receptions per game (9.6) and finished with 86 catches for 1,011 yards and six touchdowns.  He also added five rushing touchdowns and was the only player in the nation with at least five touchdowns rushing and receiving in 2019. He had 103 touches on offense and was tackled by one player just 24 times.  A total of 634 of his receiving yards came after the catch and 346 came after contact.

On top of his two watch lists, he was named first-team Preseason All-American by Phil Steele and College Football News.  He's rated the No. 2 wide receiver in the nation by both USA Today and Phil Steele. Bleacher Report names him the No. 6 prospect for the 2020 NFL Draft and he's No. 19 on Mel Kiper's first Big Board.

The calendar for the remaining award watch lists as part of the National College Football Awards Association include: Mackey Award (July 19, top tight end), Rimington Trophy (July 19, top center), Jim Thorpe Award (July 22, top defensive back), Butkus Award (July 22, top linebacker), Outland Trophy (July 23, interior lineman), Bronko Nagurski Trophy (July 23, top defensive player), Lou Groza Award (July 24, top place kicker), Ray Guy Award (July 24, top punter), Paul Hornung Award (July 25, most versatile player), Wuerffel Trophy (July 25, community service and academic achievement) and the Walter Camp Award (July 26, top player).
