Lynott Named To Rimington Award Watch List

July 19, 2019 | Football

BOULDER—Senior Tim Lynott became the fifth Colorado Football player named to a Preseason Watch List Friday as the Rimington Trophy released its list of candidates to honor the nation's best center.

The watch list nod is the seventh for the Buffs this week as the National College Football Awards Association calendar hits the midpoint of its two weeks of releases.  Lynott joins LB Nate Landman (Bednarik Award), DE Mustafa Johnson (Bednarik Award), QB Steven Montez (Maxwell Award, Davey O'Brien Award) and WR Laviska Shenault (Biletnikoff Award, Maxwell Award) as those on lists thus far.

Lynott is a three-year starter entering his final season in Boulder with four of his 33 career starts and 36 career games coming at center.  He moved to center during spring football and is CU's most experienced offensive linemen entering the 2019 season with 2,293 offensive snaps to his credit.  He has been a starter on the offensive line for three 1,000-yard rushers the last three seasons, just the second three-year stretch in CU history and he has blocked for QB's Sefo Liufau and Steven Montez, currently ranked No. 1 and No. 4 on CU's career passing chart.

Athlon Sports named him fourth-team Preseason All-Pac-12 and Phil Steele ranked him the No. 31 center in the nation.

The calendar for the remaining award watch lists as part of the National College Football Awards Association include: Jim Thorpe Award (July 22, top defensive back), Butkus Award (July 22, top linebacker), Outland Trophy (July 23, interior lineman), Bronko Nagurski Trophy (July 23, top defensive player), Lou Groza Award (July 24, top place kicker), Ray Guy Award (July 24, top punter), Paul Hornung Award (July 25, most versatile player), Wuerffel Trophy (July 25, community service and academic achievement) and the Walter Camp Award (July 26, top player).
