Shenault Added To Paul Hornung Award Watch List
July 25, 2019 | Football
BOULDER—Junior WR Laviska Shenault was named to his third watch list of the preseason Wednesday as the Paul Hornung Award published its list of candidates for the award, given to the nation's most versatile player.  The honor gives the Colorado Football team seven players and 13 total watch list accolades in the past two weeks.Â
Shenault, a 6-foot-2, 220-pound receiver from DeSoto, Texas, was also named to the watch list for the Maxwell Award (nation's top player) and the Biletnikoff Award (nation's top receiver) watch lists. Â Shenault led the nation in receiving in 2018, averaging 9.6 receptions per game as a sophomore, when he burst on the national scene before suffering an injury in week six and missing three games. Â
A consensus first-team midseason All-American, he played virtually every position not on the offensive line, lining up at all four receiver positions, quarterback, tailback, tight end and h-back. Â He scored six receiving touchdowns and had five rushing touchdowns, all in the first six games of the season. Â He was the only player nationally to have at least five rushing and receiving touchdowns and he was the first player in CU history to score two rushing and receiving touchdowns in the same game, which he did against Arizona State. Â
He finished the season with 86 catches for 1,011 yards and six touchdowns and added 17 rushes for 118 yards and five touchdowns. Â Of his 103 touches, he was tackled by one player just 24 times as 634 receiving yards came after the catch and 346 after contact. Â
The Buffs now have seven players with 13 watch list nods this month. Â Shenault was also named to the Biletnikoff Award and Maxwell Award watch lists, while DE Mustafa Johnson (Bednarik Award, Nagurski Trophy), P Alex Kinney (Ray Guy Award) ILB Nate Landman (Bednarik Award, Butkus Award, Nagurski Trophy), C Tim Lynott (Rimington Award), QB Steven Montez (Maxwell Award, Davey O'Brien Award), and OLB Davion Taylor (Butkus Award) have also earned various watch list honors. Â Â
The calendar for the watch lists as part of the National College Football Awards Association are coming to a close. Â Friday, the Walter Camp Award, given to the nation's top player, will conclude two weeks of announcements. Â Several other preseason watch list and All-America teams are expected to be announced in the coming weeks. Â
