Colorado adds Grambling State transfer

BOULDER – The Colorado soccer team added one final piece to its roster on Wednesday. Head coach Danny Sanchez announced the addition of Grambling State transfer Haileigh Adams as the team prepares for the start of fall camp next Tuesday.

"We are excited to add Haileigh to our squad for this year," Sanchez stated. "She has had tremendous success at Grambling State, in addition to earning a call up to a U19 National Team Camp. Haileigh will add great depth and completion to our backline."

Adams, a 5-foot-7 defender, was the 2018 Southwestern Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year. She started 22 games as a sophomore, helping solidify a backline that recorded 11 shutout victories. Adams was a workhorse for the Lady Tigers, who finished one win shy of the NCAA Tournament. She led the team with 1,940 minutes.

She started 18 of her 20 games as a freshman. She logged 1,806 minutes and recorded two shots. GSU registered eight shutouts in 2017, finishing 11-7-2.

Adams was invited to the 2018 U-19 United States Women's National Team Training Camp held San Diego, becoming the first SWAC women's soccer player invited to a USWNT training camp.

Adams graduated from Bishop Alemany H.S., in Mission Hills, Calif. She played her first two years as a defender, scoring seven goals before moving up to forward her senior year. Adams scored 14 goals and handed out 10 assists as a senior, earning First Team All-CIF. She sat out her junior year with a torn ACL.

The Pasadena, Calif., native, is the younger sister of former Eastern Washington, Oregon and current Montreal Alouettes quarterback Vernon Adams Jr.
