Get To Know CU's Coach: 'Mel Tucker's Inside Zone' Podcast Now Available
August 09, 2019 | Football, General, Neill Woelk
BOULDER — That Colorado football coach Mel Tucker knows his Xs and Os will obviously come as no surprise.
It his job.
But Tucker's interests go far beyond football. He considers himself somewhat of a foodie, to the extent that he "has a little Anthony Bourdain" in him. He is an avid reader, watches documentaries on a wide variety of topics, and is constantly discovering new and interesting tidbits about the University of Colorado and Boulder.
Those are things Tucker wants to share with Buffs supporters, which is why he has started his own podcast: "Mel Tucker's Inside Zone."
The first episode, hosted by Voice of the Buffs Mark Johnson, was released Friday afternoon, and featured CU Athletic Director Rick George as Tucker's first guest.
"Xs and Os are what people expect, and I do a press conference just about every day after practice," Tucker said. "It's all about football and all about the team. But with this, I think it will be interesting for people to learn a little bit more about me, more about the University of Colorado and about all the things that are so special about this place."
Tucker said when he got to Colorado, there were all kinds of things he didn't know about CU and Boulder. Since then, he has learned about those topics — such as CU's rich history with producing astronauts — and he wants to pass that information on to CU supporters.
"One of the things I realized when I got here is that CU has so much to offer," he said. "There are so many neat things about CU and the people around here that are incredible. But if you aren't in the Boulder bubble or a CU person, you don't really know about it. Whether you are talking about how many astronauts have come out of here or the business school — there's so much here to talk about. It's a unique, interesting place and I think we can tell people about it."
"Mel Tucker's Inside Zone" will be available on a regular basis on CUBuffs.com.
