Tucker Adds Jason Harris To Signing Class
January 02, 2020 | Football
BOULDER—Jason Harris, a unanimous four-star prospect and top 300 player nationally by the recruiting services, has signed his national letter of intent to continue his education and play football at Colorado, he announced in the second quarter of the Under Armor All-America High School Thursday in Orlando.
Harris is a 6-foot-7, 230-pound outside linebacker from Gilbert, Ariz., and Higley High School. Â He will become one of the tallest defensive players in program history, behind only Curt Koch, a 6-foot-8 defensive tackle who played from 1984-87 and joining current Buff Terrance Lang at 6-foot-7.Â
"Jason is a tremendous young man," CU coach Mel Tucker said. "Athletically, his ceiling is very high. Â His ability to rush the passer is something that's very difficult to find in recruiting. Â I'm excited about his future as a Buff."
ESPN ranks Harris as the No. 84 player in the nation, USA Today had him at No. 166 on its Top 250 list, the 247 Composite had him ranked No. 186 and PrepStar had him at No. 295 on its PrepStar 350 All-America list. Â He is ranked as the No. 11 defensive end nationally by ESPN, No. 13 by Rivals and No. 15 by 247Sports. Â
He lettered four times in football for coach Eddy Zuby at Highley High School, helping the team to a 36-14 record his four seasons. Â He played in 34 career games and had 109 tackles (68 solo stop) with 46 tackles for loss and 39.5 sacks, and added 44 quarterback hurries, four pass breakups, two forced fumbles, one interception, and two defensive touchdowns. Â
He had 24 sacks and 15 quarterback hurries as a senior, having at least one sack in 10 different games and five games with three-plus sacks.Â
He was also a standout for Higley's basketball team with career averages of 16.7 points, 7.9 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game, including an outstanding junior season when he averaged 20.4 points, 10.4 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game. Â
Harris becomes the 21st player to sign as part of the 2020 recruiting class and 23rd player to join the program since November. Â Previously announced as part of the class were 16 high school players, three junior college players and one transfer on Dec. 18 as part of National Signing Day. Â
Additionally, one more transfer, Antonio Alfano, the top-ranked player from the class of 2019, will join the Buffs from Alabama and graduate transfer Brendan Pyne will join the team from Brown as a walk-on. Â
