December 08, 2020 | Football
BOULDER--Weekly honors keep rolling in for the Colorado Buffaloes, who entered all three major ranking systems this week, highlighted by a No. 21 rank in the College Football Playoff Poll, the Buffs first appearance in the CFP, since 2016, the CFP released Tuesday afternoon. Â
The Buffs were ranked No. 22 in the USA Today Coaches Poll and No. 21 by the Associated Press, both released on Sunday. Â It's the first time the Buffs have been ranked in the coaches and media polls since the 2018 season, getting as high as No. 19 in the AP and No. 18 in the Coaches after opening the season 5-0. Â
It's the first time since the 2016 season the Buffs have been ranked in the CFP poll, earning a ranking in each of the six polls that season, climbing as high as No. 8, and finishing the season at No. 10. Â
Individually, the accolades have been rolling in for the Buffs, as well, particularly for ILB Nate Landman and TB Jarek Broussard. Â Landman had 17 tackles at Arizona in the Buffs' 24-13 win on Saturday, adding three tackles for loss including one sack, and two more tackles for no gain. Â He added four third-down stops and two quarterback hurries. Â Broussard had the fourth 300-yard rushing game in CU history with 25 carries for 301 yards. Â He became the first Power 5 running back to rush for 100 yards in his first four career games since Adrian Peterson for Oklahoma in 2004. Â
Landman was honored with the Chuck Bednarik National Player of the Week honor and the CollegeSportsMadness.com National and Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week. Â He's the first CU player to receive back-to-back National Player of the Week honors since QB Kordell Stewart did so in the 1992 season. Â Â
Broussard earned the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award National Player of the Week, given to players from the state of Texas, and was also the media's and CollegeSportsMadness.com's selection for Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week. Â He also earned a helmet sticker on ESPN and was named to the Watch List for the College Football Performance Awards National Performer of the Year Trophy. Â
