Boee And Sherrod Named CU Athletes Of The Week, Presented By Arrow

January 30, 2020 | General, Women's Basketball, Skiing

BOULDER - This week's CU Athlete of the Week award goes to Magnus Boee, of men's skiing, along with Jayln Sherrod, of women's basketball. These student-athletes put on an incredible display this past week, killing it both on and off the field. Week in and week out both Boee and Sherrod pride themselves on taking their ability to the next level while both being key factors and leaders on their respective teams.

Starting in the men's side of the honors this week, Magnus Boee, a freshman from Oslo, Norway, won both races as part of the Denver Invitational over the weekend at Maloit Park near Vail. The freshman standout picked up his first college victory in his third career race Saturday in the 10K Classic race, winning by over a minute and using a double-polling technique that few others in the field attempted. Sunday's 10K freestyle race was a pursuit, so he was able to get a minute head start on the field and held on for the win. He's the men's Nordic skier to sweep a meet since this DU meet two years ago in 2018.

As for the women, basketball star Jaylyn Sherrod scored a season-high of 21 points in Colorado's overtime loss at No. 6 Stanford on Friday. She had a game-high seven assists and became the second-fastest player to reach 100 career assists in CU history. Sherrod scored nine points with seven rebounds and five assists in CU's 62-50 win at Cal on Sunday. She averaged 15 points per game with 6 assists and 4.5 rebounds.
