CU Tennis Set To Host Arizona Schools
March 11, 2020 | Tennis
BOULDER – Colorado women's tennis hosts No.18-ranked Arizona State Friday, March 13, at 1:30 p.m. in the Rocky Mountain Tennis Center and follows it up with a match against Arizona Sunday, scheduled for 10 a.m. at the RMTC.
Â
The Buffaloes (8-6, 0-2 Pac-12) have faced three top-40 opponents in the past four matches. Colorado came up just short against No.30 Washington with a 4-2 loss in Seattle. Arizona State (11-5, 1-0 Pac-12) started the conference season with a lone win against Oregon, while Arizona (8-4, 0-1 Pac-12) travelled to Oregon where the team lost.
Â
Sophia Derivan leads the team with a 12-2 record in dual competitions, including a 2-0 start in conference play. The only other conference win that came last weekend was Maria Campos who is third on the team with a 6-6 record in duals. Antonia Balzert is second with an 8-5 record.
Â
As of Wednesday evening, fans are still allowed to attend the matches, as long as there are fewer than 150 spectators per the university mandate of the preferred number of people at CU-sponsored gatherings; fans should also be spaced apart. Those interested can also follow along with live stat updates at cubuffs.com/tennislive. After the university announced policies related to the COVID-19 virus Wednesday morning, CU athletics issued the following statement:
"The CU Athletics Department is committed to the health and safety of our student-athletes, staff and fans as it relates to COVID-19. The Athletics department is coordinating with campus regarding the new guidance related to events and travel, including non-sports events in our venues. We will be updating the campus FAQs with Athletics updates as changes to procedures and operations are made."
Â
Sunday's match against Arizona does have the opportunity to be moved outdoors to the CU South Campus Tennis Complex. If the match were to be moved it would begin at 11 a.m. instead of 10 a.m. with the announcement on the final site coming early Sunday morning on CU Women's Tennis social media accounts and cubuffs.com.
