Pac-12 Officially Cancels Remaining Sports Seasons
March 14, 2020 | General
BOULDER — The chief executive officers and the athletics directors of all 12 Pac-12 Conference schools met by conference call Saturday morning and confirmed it was cancelling all sports for the remainder of the 2019-20 academic and athletic year.
The official statement from the conference office:
Pac-12 statement cancelling all sports for remainder of academic year & decision on organized team activities
"At a meeting of the Pac-12 CEO Group and Athletic Directors earlier today, the Pac-12 made the decision to cancel all Pac-12 conference and non-conference sport competitions and Pac-12 championships through the end of the academic year, including spring sports that compete beyond the academic year. This decision follows both the Pac-12's earlier decision to suspend all sports until further notice, and the decision by the NCAA to cancel the Division I men's and women's 2020 NCAA basketball tournaments as well as all remaining winter and spring NCAA championships.
"In addition, the Pac-12 Conference has made the decision to prohibit all organized team athletically-related activities until at least March 29, at which time it will revisit this decision."
CU's winter sports were officially finished when the NCAA cancelled championships last Thursday in men's and women's basketball, indoor track and skiing.
In spring competition, all CU's sports were competing with the exception of men's and women's outdoor track, which would have started on March 20 with the Jerry Quiller Invitational. Women's lacrosse owned a 3-2 record (1-0 in Pac 12) with 11 games cancelled; women's tennis was 8-6 (0-2 Pac-12), with eight league matches remaining; and the men's and women's golf teams had each played in three tournaments with three and two events, respectively, left on their schedules before the postseason. Spring matches in soccer and volleyball will not be held.
All support areas for CU's student-athletes will remain in operation for those who do not choose the option to go home for the rest of the semester with campus transitioning to remote learning on Monday. They can voluntarily choose to work out individually and meet with their coaches during this time.
A decision on when spring football practices will be held will be made in the near future.
