Top Competitions Countdown: No. 11, Lacrosse vs. Oregon

March 24, 2020 | Lacrosse

BOULDER - A 21-5 victory for CU lacrosse over Pac-12 rival Oregon on March 6 was no doubt a thrashing, but it was also a record-breaker. As a result, it earned the No. 11 spot on CU's list of top competitions of 2019-20.

Where to start with the records? The Buffs set school all-time-best marks for most goals (21), assists (14) and points (35) in a Pac-12 contest. It was also the second-most points in any game in CU history and tied for the fifth-most goals. It improved the team to 11-0 all-time vs. Oregon.

It's no surprise that it was all Buffs from the opening draw as they jumped out to a 4-0 lead less than four minutes into the contest, and led 11-3 at halftime. Playing with a running clock most of the second half due to the mercy rule, CU was led by sophomores Chloe Willard (five goals and two assists) and Charlie Rudy (four goals and three assists).

Another sophomore, Kate Burnside, was key in CU's 19-9 edge in the draw circle, winning 10 draws herself. When the final whistle was blown, 13 different Buffs had been involved in the scoring.

The win over Oregon ended up being the penultimate game during the shortened 2020 season and helped the Buffs finish the year 3-2 overall, 1-0 in the Pac-12, and ranked 25th nationally. Both losses came to top-15 teams.
