Top Competitions Countdown: No. 9, Men's Golf Wins Mark Simpson Invite

BOULDER - CU's men's golf team pulled together its second-best tournament score ever (35-under par) to pull away and win the Mark Simpson Invitational on Oct. 7-8, putting that event at No. 9 in our countdown of top competitions from the 2019-20 year.
It was the seventh straight year the Buffs won or shared the title in their home tournament at Colorado National Golf Course in the event's 10th year.
Senior Daniel O'Loughlin shared medalist honors by shooting a 12-under, 204 in three rounds. Ross Macdonald's 68 on the final day moved him into eighth place with a three-round score of 208 (8-under par). All five CU golfers finished in the top 20, the first time in school history all five scorers finished under par.
For head coach Roy Edwards, it was a record win for him, his 17th major tournament championship in school history, moving him past the late Mark Simpson, who won 16 majors from 1977 until his death in 2005.
The tournament victory was the second of two wins for the Buffs during their shortened 2019-20 season as they also captured the season-opening Air Force Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational title. Out of seven tournaments during the season, CU finished in the top half of the field in five of them.
