Top Performances Countdown: Hart Leads Buffs To Record Night

What a day it was for Meegan Hart and the CU volleyball team's hitters. The sophomore transfer was a part of three school records in a 3-1 victory over Oakland on Sept. 20. Hart's performance earns the No. 18 spot on our countdown of the top individual performances of 2019-20.
Hart had 10 kills with zero errors in 12 hitting attempts for a .833 hitting percentage. That clip broke two school records, one being a 20-year-old record for hitting percentage in a four-set match (previously .714 held by both Lisa Soulliere and Darla DeRuiter), and the other the sophomore hitting percentage record (previously .778 set by Jennifer Sherlock in 1988 and Nicole Vranesh in 1991).
Hart's performance also led the Buffs to a .490 hitting percentage, their highest ever in a four-set match. The previous best was .402 vs. Denver in 2004.
The Buffs connected at a .632 rate in the first set, helped by freshman Sterling Parker, who had seven kills in her first seven swings. Hart got going in the second set with three kills in that frame, three more in the third, and four in the fourth.
In addition to Hart's hitting, credit goes to setter Jenna Ewert for the record night as well. The junior had a double-double with 51 assists and 11 digs, consistently finding the right matchup offensively, while providing defensive cover.
With Ewert connecting so well with Hart and fellow middle Danielle Price (who hit .714), it made things easier for her teammates.
"I think it's really important [we were so efficient in the middle] because it helps our outsides and helps open up everything else," Hart said after the match. "It's my job to be up and pull the block and help my teammates."
And indeed it did. Senior outside hitter Justine Spann had 21 kills and a career-high .562 hitting percentage. Parker finished with 10 kills and a .412 kill rate.
