Jones just completed her sophomore season at Georgetown

BOULDER—The University of Colorado women's basketball team completed its 2020-21 roster with the transfer of Tayanna Jones on Monday.

Jones, a 6-foot-2 guard, from Selma, N.C., completed her first two years of eligibility at Georgetown.

"We are incredibly excited to announce the signing of Tayanna to our Colorado basketball family," head coach JR Payne commented. "She is a tremendous and rare combination of size, versatility and skill. Tay's potential is off the charts for all of these reasons. I believe that her impact will be felt immediately as she brings high character, experience, an extremely competitive mindset and a true desire to help her team be great."

Jones played in 27 games for the Hoyas last season and earned three starts. She averaged a career-highs with 5.5 points and 3.1 rebounds per game last season. She totaled a season-high 15 points in her start at Loyola Marymount. Jones' best rebounding performance came late in the season against DePaul, snagging 12 boards.

In two years at Georgetown, Jones averaged 4.4 points and 2.6 rebounds per game. She has 166 career points and 98 total rebounds. Jones is a 31.3 percent shooter and has averaged just over 13 minutes per game.

Jones, a McDonalds All-American nominee, was a four-year starter and captain at North Johnston High School. She was the team's Most Improved Player as a freshman and earned two MVP honors before graduating. She once scored 45 points in a game and finished her high school career with over 1,000 career points. She helped North Johnston make history advancing to the second round of state playoffs for the first time in school history. Jones was selected All-Conference in her sophomore, junior and senior seasons. She was also a two-time MVP on the cross country team.

This is the second spring signing for the Buffaloes. Last week the team announced the addition of Madison Buford, also a guard from Rend Lake College.
