George Announces Several Staff Moves

July 09, 2020 | General

BOULDER — University of Colorado athletic director Rick George announced several staff moves within his department Thursday, filling the roles of two vacancies created with the departure of members of his management team.

When Ceal Barry announced her retirement on May 19, George was faced with filling several roles she occupied on an administrative level for the last 15 years after she stepped away from a 22-year career as CU's women's basketball coach; her last day was June 30.

Ceal's final roles were that of Deputy Athletic Director, which included overseeing all nine sport supervisors, and Senior Woman Administrator (SWA).

Kris Livingston will assume overseeing the sport supervisors in addition to all aspects for student academic success as well as CU's leadership and career development program.  Entering her 24th year as a member of the CU staff, she has been promoted to executive senior associate athletic director.

George named Jason DePaepe as the department's new deputy AD, promoted to the position from senior associate AD for internal operations.  He will continue to oversee facilities and game day operations, human resources and the stadium's concessionaire, Levy.  He is in his 21st year working in CU athletics.

Jill Keegan, in her 11th year in the department, will assume the SWA duties.  The associate athletic director for compliance, she has directed that area for the last seven years and will continue to do so.

"Kris, Jason and Jill have combined for over 50 years invested in CU, and all have an abundance of experience, not only in their assigned areas, but really across the board in collegiate athletics," George said.  "Ceal meant a lot, not only to this department but to the university, but I am confident in these three moving forward and maintaining the legacy she created.  They are vital roles in the holistic experience we desire for our student-athletes."

In addition, George announced two new hires.  Lance Gerlach has been named the assistant vice chancellor for advancement and associate athletic director, as he will shift from his current role of associate athletic director and chief revenue officer in the department.  He replaces Ben Broussard, who left CU the first week in May for a similar position at North Carolina State University.  Gerlach oversaw the Buff Club for six weeks after Broussard left for NCSU.

"Lance brings extensive leadership, supervision and business relationship experience that will strengthen our organizations and improve our collaborations across the university and larger community," George said.  "Identifying a leader with strong professional values and extensive professional experiences remained our focus, and we found those qualities in Lance.  He demonstrates values of colleagueship, care and concern for staff success and well-being, and respect for all.  At Lance's core, he focuses on building relationships with his colleagues and his team."

Alexis Williams will return to CU and become the senior associate athletic director for external operations, which will also include the role of diversity and inclusion officer.  Williams was the assistant athletic director for ticket operations for the better part of four years (2015-18) and was an active member on the department's Diversity & Inclusion Excellence Council.  She takes over for Medford Moorer, who oversaw diversity and inclusion for athletics until taking a position on campus last spring.  Williams returned to her native Houston in early 2019 as the associate AD for ticket operations at the University of Houston.

"We are excited to have Alexis return and fill this most important role for us," George said.  "She has over 20 years of experience in several areas of intercollegiate athletics, and her strong personal skills are vital to this position."
