Buffs Honor Teachers Through CFP Foundation Extra Yard For Teachers
September 14, 2020 | General
BOULDER--The University of Colorado will honor teachers and educational staff this week as part of the College Football Playoff Foundation Extra Yard for Teachers program.
Extra Yard for Teachers is the CFP Foundation's primary platform and is dedicated to elevating the teaching profession by inspiring and empowering teachers in four core areas: resources, recognition, professional development, and recruitment and retention.
"We know every day is game day for teachers," Executive Director of the CFP Foundation Britton Banowky said. "Extra Yard for Teachers represents a coming together of college football to show its appreciation for teachers."
The teachers the Buffs will honor are Sara Nelson from University Hill Elementary, Andrew Moore from BVSD IT Services, and Ann Cooper and Carolyn Villa from BVSD Food Services.
Nelson has worked incredibly hard creating reintroduction units and providing invaluable support to help students have better access to content. Her focus on bilingual students and language learners for all has given the opportunity to embed Spanish learning for all K-5 units and several middle school units.
IT Services has always been a critical part of keeping a school up and running, but never more so than during the remote learning surrounding the COVID-19 Pandemic. Extra Yards for Teachers recognizes Moore and the BVSD IT team to assist with their efforts in making sure every child has the technology necessary to continue learning remotely.
When classrooms transitioned to living rooms, the BVSD food services team stepped up in a huge way. They have continued serving meals twice a week, every week, since March. When they could've easily thrown in the towel, they turned up the heat and did what they knew was right. Cooper and her team continue their work in bringing meals to families in need and Villa has helped by managing a food distribution site to make sure all students have access to meals.
