Junior One Of 32 Nationally Selected, Will Represent Pac-12
INDIANAPOLIS--The NCAA announced the formation of a Division I Women's Basketball Student-Athlete Engagement Group and CU junior Aubrey Knight has been selected not only to represent the University of Colorado but the Pac-12 Conference, as well.
The group will serve as an amplifying voice for women's basketball players on key initiatives, legislation, and various other issues. The group was formed in collaboration with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association and is the first of its kind in the NCAA. The group consists of current student-athletes from each of the 32 conferences that make up Division I basketball.
"I think it's an awesome opportunity, and I'm honored to represent not only CU but also the Pac-12," Knight said. "It's a great idea to create this group, especially in a time like this, because there are many questions and concerns different conferences and institutions have to worry about. So having this group allows for a place to talk about all of these issues and concerns."
Student-athletes were nominated through the WBCA Division I Conference Captains program. Each captain submitted the name of a player from their conference who they believed would be a good representative for all women's basketball players in their conference. The term of service for each student-athlete will coincide with athletics eligibility for competition. Two student-athletes will be selected to be representative on the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Oversight Committee.
Knight represents the women's basketball team on CU's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. She will have two years to represent CU and the Pac-12 on the Student-Athlete Engagement Group.
