What You Need To Know: Buffs At Ducks

October 30, 2021 | Football, Neill Woelk

COLORADO BUFFALOES (2-5, 1-3 Pac-12)

at No. 7 OREGON DUCKS (6-1, 3-1)

KICKOFF: 1:35 p.m., (MT), Autzen Stadium (54,000)

TV, RADIO: The game will be televised by Fox with Aaron Goldsmith (play-by-play) and Brock Huard (color). The radio broadcast will be carried by KOA (850 AM, 94.1 FM) with Voice of the Buffs Mark Johnson and Gary Barnett in the booth and Bobby Pesavento on the sidelines. KOA's coverage begins at 11:30 a.m. with the pregame show.

ON THE INTERNET: The game can be heard on the internet at CUBuffs.com, and www.850koa.com in the Denver-Boulder metro area. Live statistics will also be available at CUBuffs.com.

THE COACHES: Colorado head coach Karl Dorrell is in his second year at the Buffs' helm. Last year's Pac-12 Coach of the Year, Dorrell is 6-7 at CU and 41-34 overall as a head coach. Mario Cristobal is in his fourth season at Oregon (31-11) and 10th season overall as a head coach (58-85).

THE SERIES: Oregon holds a 13-9 all-time advantage, including a 5-3 edge in Eugene. The Ducks have won seven of the last eight, with Colorado's only victory a 41-38 win in 2016.

WHAT'S AT STAKE: The Buffs haven't beaten a top 10 team since 2007 (27-24 over No. 3 Oklahoma), and they are 1-31 against ranked teams on the road since 2003 (the only win coming at ASU in 2019). The Ducks, meanwhile, are still in the hunt for a College Football Playoff berth.

LAST OUTING: The Buffs dropped a 26-3 decision at Cal while Oregon rallied to take a 34-31 win at UCLA.

TEAM LEADERS: Safety Isaiah Lewis has been steady on the back end all year for Colorado. He is second on the team in tackles with 47, trailing only linebacker Nate Landman's 71. Defensive end Carson Wells leads the team in tackles for loss with nine, including two sacks.

Offensively, Jarek Broussard leads CU with 337 yards rushing while Brendon Lewis has thrown for 792 yards.

Oregon's offense is led by quarterback Anthony Brown, who has thrown for 1,490 yards and seven touchdowns; and RB Travis Dye, who has run for 562 yards and eight scores.

Defensively, lineman Kayvon Thibodeaux has 7.5 tackles for loss, including four sacks, despite missing two full games because of an injury. Linebacker has a team-leading 63 tackles.

KEY MATCHUP: CU offensive line vs. Thibodeaux. If the Buffs can contain Thibodeaux to a degree, they have a chance to get their passing game in rhythm and then open up the run game.

UP NEXT: The Buffs return home next Saturday for a 5 p.m. game against Oregon State.
