Colorado Cruises Past Air Force

BOULDER — Colorado women's tennis sailed to an easy 6-1 win over Air Force Friday night at the Air Force Academy, improving its season record to 6-2.
The Buffs jumped out to a hot start in the doubles matches over Air Force (5-2), winning its two matches with ease. In the No. 2 doubles match, Fleur Eggink and Maria Campos cruised to an easy 6-1 win, putting Colorado in a great spot to win the doubles point. Immediately following, Antonia Balzert and Megan Forster won the No. 3 doubles match by a score of 6-2, winning the point for the Buffaloes.
Out of the break, Sophia Derivan opened up singles play by beating Alex Kuo in the No.2 singles match in straight sets 6-1, 6-0. Now holding a 2-0 lead, Colorado kept its foot on the gas, as Megan Forster won the No.4 singles match in straight sets, defeating Hailey Stelse 6-3, 6-0.
Sydney Fitch put Air Force on the board, winning the No.3 singles match over Antonia Balzert by a score of 6-2, 7-6 (1). In the second half of the singles matches, it was all Colorado, as the Buffaloes went on to win the remaining three matches.
Eggink defeated Ksenia Vasilyev in straight sets 6-0, 6-1 to clinch the win for Colorado, bringing the lead to 4-1. Campos beat Mebeli Becerra in the No.5 singles match to extend the Buffaloes lead. The closest match of the day however, was the No.1 singles match. Sara Nayar out-lasted Meredith Jones to win by a score of 6-1, 2-6, 7-6 (9).
Colorado's match against CSU tomorrow has officially been postponed due to COVID concerns. The Buffs next scheduled match is against Cal on March 5th at home.
