February 08, 2021 | General
BOULDER- Magnus Boee (Skiing), Evan Battey (Men's Basketball), Frida Formann (Women's Basketball), and Jenna Ewert (Volleyballl) are the CU Athletes of the Week, presented by Arrow.
Boee continued his scorching hot start to the 2020-2021 season, winning both races at the CU Invitational in Aspen. The sophomore has now won four straight races which is the longest streak nationally for men's Nordic since Colorado's Mads Stroem won the last six races of the 2015 season.
Boee has now won CU's Athlete of the Week award four times in his young, yet illustrious, CU career.
Battey carried the Buffs to a win on Saturday against Arizona scoring a team-high 21 points in the contest, with 15 coming after the half. Four of those came at the free throw line in the final 15 seconds to help the Buffs rally for a huge, 82-79 win. The junior was fouled with 4.6 seconds left in a play that injured his ankle. Battey was able to limp to the free throw line and knock down two clutch free throws to score the game's final points.
Battey has won CU's Athlete of the Week award three times as a Buff.
Formann put on a shooting clinic in Berkley on Sunday to lead the Buffs to a 67-52 win over California. Formann went 9-for-12 from the field, scoring a season-high 25 points. The freshman went six-of-eight from three which was one shy of Kennedy Leonard's program game record of seven. Formann also added four assists in the win for the Buffs.
Formann is the third freshman to win Athlete of the Week in 2020-2021, joining Brenden Rice (Football) and Ian Gilmore (Indoor Track).
Ewert led the Buffs in assists, digs, and blocks in an undefeated weekend against California. Ewert also hit .300 in the pair of victories. In a three-set sweep on Sunday, Ewert filled up the stat sheet with 28 assists, four block assists, 12 digs, and four kills.
Ewert, the preseason All-Pac-12 team member, has won the award three times in her career.
Other Nominees:
Dani Hansen (Soccer), Eduardo Herrera (Cross Country), Rachel McArthur (Cross Country), Avery McMullen (Indoor Track), Sara Nayar (Tennis)
