Fifteen Buffs Named To National Academic Ski Team

DENVER – The Colorado Buffaloes Ski Team placed 14 skiers on the National Collegiate All-Academic Ski Team, the United States Collegiate Ski Coaches Association announced Tuesday.

To qualify, a student-athlete must maintain a 3.5 cumulative grade point average. In 2021 because membership in the three conferences in the collegiate skiing scene spans all three divisions in the NCAA and not all institutions competed in winter sports due to the pandemic, the normal requirement of participation in one of three NCAA Regional competitions was waived.

The 15 Buffs honored were: Bridget Donovan, Louis Fausa, Isabelle Fidjeland, Katie Fleckenstein, Stef Fleckenstein, Olivia Gerrard, Emma Hammergaard, Kaitlyn Harsch, Oyvind Haugan, Ryan Jackson, Sky Kelsey, Will Koch, Bobby Ryan, Chase Seymour and Joey Young.

Young becomes the 13th CU skier to be named to the team four times, and just the fifth men's alpine skier joining Tahir Bisic (2002-05), Andreas Haug (2011-14), Roger Carry (2014-17) and Max Luukko (2016-19).

Gerrard earned mention on the team for the third time Stef Fleckenstein for the second time, both also earning the honor every season they've been eligible (Stef Fleckenstein joined the team in the spring semester ahead of the 2019 season and was not eligible that season). The other 12 Buffs are earning the award for the first time.

Six of the 15 Buffs honored are competing in the NCAA Championships starting Wednesday and running through Saturday. Alpine action kicks off on Wednesday morning with GS races.
