Arizona State Shuts Out Colorado

TEMPE – The 36th-ranked Arizona State Sun Devils outlasted the Colorado women's tennis team at the Whiteman Tennis Center Saturday afternoon by a score of 4-0.

After yesterday's loss to the Arizona Wildcats, Colorado's season record is now 8-10. As for the Sun Devils, they will look to improve their season record of 11-7.

Arizona State gained control of the match early on and never gave up the momentum. Starting in doubles play, Ilze Hattingh and Lauryn John-Baptiste defeated Sara Nayar and Fleur Eggink in the No.1 doubles match 6-0.

Looking to keep the pressure applied, Tereza Kolarova and Giulia Morlet won the No.3 doubles match by a score of 6-4, defeating Maria Campos and Ky Ecton to win the doubles point for the Sun Devils and take a 1-0 lead. The No.2 doubles match was suspended after ASU clinched the doubles point.

Switching things over to singles play, Arizona State won three consecutive matches in straight sets, clinching the 4-0 victory for the Sun Devils. In the No.3 singles match, John-Baptiste defeated Megan Forster 6-0, 6-1 to extend the ASU lead to 2-0.

Marianna Argyrokastriti won the No.5 singles match over Ky Ecton by a score of 6-0, 6-2, earning another point for Arizona State. With a 3-0 lead, all Domenika Turkovic needed was a win in the No.6 singles match to seal the win for ASU.

Turkovic won her match, defeating Fleur Eggink and the Buffaloes in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0. The final three singles matches were suspended due to Arizona State clinching the win.

Colorado will host Utah this Friday, April 16th at 1:30 PM MT for the regular season finale before heading to California for the Pac-12 Championships.
