One of 20 players to land on the preseason list

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Colorado center Quay Miller was one of 20 players announced to the 2023 Lisa Leslie Award watch list by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association on Friday.

Named after the three-time All-American,1994 National Player of the Year and Class of 2015 Hall of Famer, the annual award in its sixth year recognizes the top centers in women's NCAA Division I college basketball. A national committee of top college basketball personnel determined the watch list of 20 candidates.

Miller, who is entering her senior year, played in all 31 games and posted a career-high 330 points during the Buffaloes' run to the 2022 NCAA Tournament. She was voted the Pac-12 Sixth Player of the Year and was an honorable mention All-Pac-12 selection to cap her first year in Boulder.

Miller is the team's top returning scorer from a year ago, averaging 10.6 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game last season.

The Renton, Wash., native, is one of six Pac-12 players on the initial list. Sedona Prince (Oregon), Francesca Belibi (Stanford), Lauren Betts (Stanford), Emma Grothaus (Washington) and Bella Murekatete (Washington State) all represent the conference.

Fans are encouraged to participate in Fan Voting, presented by Dell Technologies, in each of the three rounds starting today, October 21. In late January, the watch list of 20 players for the 2023 Lisa Leslie Award will be narrowed to 10 and then in late February to just five. In March the five finalists will be presented to Leslie and the Hall of Fame's selection committee where a winner will be selected.

Miller along with Jaylyn Sherrod and head coach JR Payne will be in San Francisco next Tuesday, representing Colorado at Pac-12 Media Day.

Fans will get a chance to see the Buffs in action on Nov. 1 in exhibition play against Adams State (6 p.m. MT). The season will get underway six days later against New Mexico State (Nov. 7, Noon).
