ZHANGJIAKOU, CHINA – Former Buffs Joanne Reid (Team USA, Biathlon) and Petra Hyncicova (Czech Republic, Cross-Country Skiing) both competed in team events Wednesday.
Reid competed in the 4x6K relay as Team USA finished in 11th place with a total time of 1:15:53.3. Reid raced in the last leg of the race and had a solid outing, recording the fifth fastest time in her leg with a time of 18:45.3. The American was perfect on her first five shots in the prone position and missed just one in the standing position. Reid's quick time boosted the U.S. from 13th place at the beginning of her leg, to 11th at the end.Â
Team USA and Reid also competed in this event in the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang and both the team and Reid improved from that outing. In 2018, the U.S. finished in 13th place in this event and in her leg, Reid had a time of 19:01.1.Â
The 29-year-old has concluded competing in the XXIV Winter Olympic Games. Â
In Cross-Country skiing, former Colorado skier Hyncicova competed for her home nation of the Czech Republic in the Women's Team Sprint Classic. Hyncicova and her teammate, Katerina Janatova unfortunately failed to qualify for the finals, finishing in 8th place in the semifinals with a time of 23:55.59. In the Team Sprint, there are teams of two that alternate laps in a 1.5km course. On her first lap, Hyncicova had her best performance with the second fastest leg time of 3:43.4. In her second lap, she recorded a time of 3:52.8 before finishing her final leg with a time of 4:32.5.Â
Hyncicova has never competed in this event at the Olympics but has at the World Cup level, with her best outing a 7th place finish on Jan. 12, 2020 in Dresden, Germany. Her next opportunity is the Women's 30K Mass Start on Sunday, Feb. 20 at 2:30 p.m. in China (11:30 p.m. MT on Saturday, Feb. 19). Start lists have not yet been released for the event.Â
