Olympians Hyncicova, Kaleta Compete in Cross Country Sprint Free Competition

ZHANGJIAKOU, CHINA – Former Colorado Buffalo Petra Hyncicova was joined by current Buff Weronika Kaleta, who was making her Olympic debut, in the Cross Country Sprint Free competition here Tuesday at the XXIV Winter Olympic Games.
Petra Hyncicova finished 33rd and missed out on qualifying for the quarterfinals by just 0.38 seconds. With bib 21, she was in 12nd place after she timed out at 3:24.51. After all results were compiled, she made up six spots from 39th at the 0.6 k mark.
Weronika Kaleta, competing for Poland, finished 50th. Wearing bib 3, she got an early start in the competition, but ended up 8.15 seconds behind the cutoff time for quarterfinal qualification. Kaleta also placed in 50th at the 0.6k mark.
Hyncicova, a second-time Olympian, did not compete in this event in PyeongChang in 2018. She has 14 previous World Cup starts in the Cross Country Sprint Free, with an average finish of 39th place. Her highest-ever finish in the event in World Cup competition is 24th place in Dresden, Germany on Dec. 19, 2020.
Kaleta has starts in eight previous World Cups in the event, with an average finish of 45th place. Her highest finish was 26th, which also came in Dresden on Dec. 19, 2020.
Hyncicova skied for the Buffs from 2015-18, sweeping the two individual championship races at the 2017 NCAA Championships as well as being a seven-time All-American.
Kaleta is in her sophomore season for the Buffaloes. She claimed All-American honors and winning CU's Outstanding Nordic Woman Award during her freshman season.
In her next event, Hyncicova is expected to compete in the Women's 10K Classic Thursday afternoon in Zhangjiakou (midnight local time). Kaleta's next expected event will be the Women's 4x5K Relay at Saturday afternoon (12:30 a.m. local time). Hyncicova will also be participating in that event.
On Wednesday, Poland's Magdalena Luczak, a current CU freshman, will be competing in the Women's Slalom event, which will start tonight at 7:15 p.m. (10:15 a.m. in China). She will be wearing bib 52.
Additionally, current CU student Stacy Gaskill will be competing in the Women's Snowboard Cross, which will start tonight at 8 p.m. (11 a.m. in China). Gaskill, wearing bib 1, will kick off the event tonight.
On top of those two competitions, former CU student Taylor Gold will compete in the Men's Halfpipe Qualifying tonight at 9:30 p.m. (12:30 p.m. in China). Gold will be wearing bib 8 but will be starting 20th.
