BOULDER – The Colorado women's tennis team fell 7-0 here Friday afternoon to No.16-ranked UCLA to open the 2022 Pac-12 conference schedule.

The Buffs (4-4, 0-1 Pac-12) played close in singles play with one set win and 10 of 13 sets scoring three or more games, but the Bruins (5-3, 1-0 Pac-12) three-ranked singles and ranked doubles were too much for Colorado.

In the doubles point, the 28^th-ranked tandem in Elysia Bolton and Elise Wagle downed Maria Campos and Caroline Pozo 6-2 to clinch the point. Betina Tokac and Ellen Puzak were deadlocked at three all in the No.3 doubles match when the point was decided.

Moving to singles, No.115 Abbey Forbes picked up the second UCLA point with a 6-3, 6-0 defeat of Caroline Pozo. Meanwhile, Balzert took the first set off Bolton 6-2, the only set Colorado won. That match ended up being the last one finished with Bolton rallying back with a 6-3 second set win and a 6-2 third set.

Freshman Mila Stanojevic had her 13-match win streak broken with a 6-2, 6-3 loss to Wagle in the No.5 singles match. Maria Campos and Megan Forster each battled hard in the No.3 and No.4 singles matches, respectfully, both losing close first sets by just two games. Forster dropped the first to No.111 Kimmi Hance 7-5 and then dropped the match 6-4 in the second set. Campos faced No.102 Sasha Vagramov, losing 6-4, 6-3.

The closest set of the match went to Ava Catanzarite against Tokac in the No.6 singles match. After Tokac fell 6-4 in the first set, she rallied to tie the second 6-6. In the tiebreaker, both women battled to a 6-6 tie before Catanzarite finished off the match 7(6)-6.

The Buffaloes return to action Sunday in the Rocky Mountain Tennis Center against No.21-ranked USC at 10 a.m.
