Buffs Swept by No.20 Arizona State

BOULDER - On a beautiful spring afternoon, the Colorado women's tennis team was swept 4-0 by No.20 Arizona State at the CU South Campus Tennis Complex on Friday.
Colorado falls to 7-12 overall with an 0-8 mark in Pac-12 competition as it heads into the final two regular season matches. ASU won its fourth-straight match and improved to 12-6 on the year and 4-4 in the Pac-12.
The Sun Devils got to work early in the No.2 doubles match with Giulia Morlet and Sedona Gallagher topping CU's Ky Ecton and Mila Stanojevic 6-1. In the No. 1 match, Colorado's Caroline Pozo and Antonia Balzert were giving the No.21 ranked doubles duo all they could handle and were tied 5-5 with ASU's Patricija Spaka and Domenika Turkovic. However, the match was abandoned after ASU's Marianna Argyrokastriti and Cali Jankowski clinched the doubles point in the No.3 match with a 6-4 win over Ellen Puzak and Betina Tokac.
Balzert continued to play well for CU, claiming a 6-4 set victory over No.95 Giulia Morlet in the No.1 singles match. The Sun Devils were strong in the other matches though, as Argyrokastriti quickly put ASU up 2-0 with 6-3, 6-0 set victories over Ecton in the No.6 singles match. Gallagher also had success for Arizona State in the No.3 match, defeating Megan Forster 6-1, 6-2 to extend the lead to 3-0.
In the No.4 match, Stanojevic competed well, but fell 6-4 in both her sets against Jankowski as ASU clinched the victory. In match No.1, Balzert's game ended in the second set as she held set lead and a 4-1 lead in the second set. In match No. 2, Pozo trailed Turkovic by a set but was leading 4-1 in second set when her match was abandoned. Tokac was also looking to level her match at a set apiece, as she led 5-0 in the second set when her game was left unfinished.
Colorado will close out its home schedule Sunday as it will host No.49 Arizona at 11 a.m. for senior day.
