El Sayed Advances To Consolation Finals

SAN FRANCISCO — The University of Colorado women's tennis junior Aya El Sayed captured a pair of victories here Saturday to advance to the finals in the consolation bracket at the Battle In The Bay Classic.

El Sayed started the day taking down Pac-12 foe Nathalie Rodilosso of USC in deciding fashion. El Sayed won the match in straight sets, scoring 6-3 in both sets.

Moving on to the semifinals, El Sayed faced another conference foe in Sedona Gallagher of ASU. El Sayed took a close first set 7-6(3) before falling 6-3 in the second. El Sayed recovered well in the third-set tiebreaker, dominating with a 10-4 victory.

The junior transfer will take on Tomi Main of Pacific in the consolation finals tomorrow.

Senior Antonia Balzart fell to Mariana Manyoma Velasquez of Kansas in a hard-fought three-set battle. In the first set, Balzart outlasted Manyoma Velasquez after it was forced into a tiebreak and picked up the set 7-6(4). Manyoma Velasquez then bounced back, taking the second with a 7-5 score. In the third set tiebreak, Balzart continued to fight hard, but in the end fell 10-6.\

The pair are scheduled to competed in doubles exhibitions tomorrow along with Balzert in exhibition singles matches and El Sayed's finals appearance.
