Ann & Emily - Team USA & Canada

Two Buffs Become Rivals in USA Lacrosse Fall Classic

October 10, 2023 | Lacrosse

BOULDER - Colorado's head lacrosse coach, Ann Elliott Whidden, and CU midfielder Emily Dodd will find themselves facing each other at the 2023 USA Lacrosse Fall Classic this Friday at 5 p.m. ET in Sparks, Maryland.

Whidden will be on Team USA's side as an assistant coach for the U20 National Team while Dodd, a Calgary, Alberta native, will be sporting a Canadian jersey.

"I'm most excited to get to put the Canadian jersey on," Dodd said. "My biggest goals have always been to represent my country and play Division 1 lacrosse. It's a pretty surreal feeling that I have the opportunity to do both. I've worked really hard and have a lot of people who've helped to get me to where I am. I'm really proud they get to watch me do this."

Dodd is one of forty finalists for the U20 Canadian National Team. If chosen for the final roster, Dodd and Elliott Whidden could find themselves squaring off on opposite sides of the field again in Hong Kong in August 2024.

"On a personal level, I'm excited to get to watch Emily play and compete for the Canadian team," Whidden said. I know this is a goal of hers. Emily has been doing awesome this fall with us and is a competitor. It will be fun to go up against her and just to get to see her play on that team, at this level will be huge. It's such a great opportunity for us both; I'm just looking forward to a great weekend of lacrosse!"

In addition to playing each other, Team USA and Team Canada will also face reigning NCAA women's champion Northwestern.

"Both [teams] are going to be challenges for our squad and great preparation for us as we look to continue our preparation and selection process for summer 2024," Elliott Whidden said. "I work with the defense for Team USA and am excited to go up against some great offenses and offensive players to see what we can do and how our unit competes."
