One of 20 forwards on the initial list

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Colorado forward Quay Miller is among 20 players named as preseason watchlist candidates for the 2024 Katrina McClain Power Forward of the Year Award, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association announced on Thursday.

Named after the two-time All-American and 1987 National Player of the Year, the annual award in its seventh year recognizes the top power forwards in women's NCAA DI college basketball. A national committee of top college basketball personnel determined the watch list of 20 candidates.

"We're proud to recognize these incredible student-athletes who have shown many skills that made Katrina McClain the standout she was and have proven themselves the best at their position," said
John L. Doleva, President and CEO of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. "As we launch our fan voting component tomorrow, we encourage fans to vote alongside Katrina and our distinguished
selection committee."

Miller, a native of Renton, Wash., was selected Preseason All-Pac-12 last week. She was an All-Conference selection last season and finished fifth in the Pac-12 in both rebounds per game (8.8) and total rebounds (164). Miller snagged a career-high 19 rebounds last season at Oregon State, tying the fourth most in a game in program history. Last season, she was a Lisa Leslie Midseason Top 10 watch candidate, totaling 444 points and surpassing 1,000 career points - a majority (774) coming as a Buff. Miller scored 10 points or more in 27 games last season and had 10 double-doubles, including a 12-point, 14-rebound performance against Iowa in the Sweet 16.

"Quay has proven herself time and time again as one of the most versatile and polished players in the country," head coach JR Payne commented. "I'm so excited for her to be recognized on a list like this and know that she is motivated and excited to have a great senior year."

The graduate forward is one of three Pac-12 players represented on the list along with Alissa Pili (Utah) and Esmery Martinez (Arizona).

The list will be narrowed down to 10 in late January, with plans to announce the Final 5 late in March. Players have the ability to play themselves on and off the list until the five finalists are selected.

Previous winners of the Katrina McClain Power Forward of the Year Award are Maddy Siegrist, Villanova (2023), NaLyssa Smith, Baylor (2021-22), Ruthy Hebard, Oregon (2018, 2020) and Napheesa Collier, Connecticut (2019).

Fans are encouraged to participate in Fan Voting, presented by Dell Technologies, in each of the three rounds starting Friday, October 20. In late January, the watch list of 20 players for the 2024 Katrina McClain Award will be narrowed to 10, and then in late February to just five. In March, the five finalists will be presented to McClain and the Hall of Fame's selection committee, where a winner will be selected.
