BOULDER – The Colorado women's basketball team (9-3, 0-0 Big 12) goes on the road for the first time since Nov. 12 to play Arizona State (13-0, 0-0 Big 12) for its conference opener on Dec. 21 at Desert Financial Arena at 5 p.m. MT.
 
The Buffs will face the Sun Devils for the 32nd time in program history, and CU has won the last four-straight games against ASU. Colorado is 109-149 (.423) overall in the Big 12, playing its second season back in the Conference. The Buffs are 8-8 all-time in Big 12 openers, with their last win being a comeback upset against then-No. 14 West Virginia last season, 65-60 (Dec. 21, 2024).
 
Earlier this week, the Buffs defeated Northern Colorado, 79-62, earning their 13th-straight victory over the Bears (Dec. 16). Three Buffs had double-figure points and had more assists than the Bears (17-9). CU held Northern Colorado scoreless from beyond the arc in the first half. 
 
 
TIP-OFF (TL;DR)
  • CU is led by 10th-year head coach JR Payne, who has led the Buffs to a 173-119 (.592) record as CU's eighth head women's basketball coach. Coach Payne has been extended through the 2028 season and has led the Buffs to three NCAA appearances, two WNIT appearances and one WBIT appearance.
  • In its second year back in the Big 12, Colorado was picked to finish ninth in the Big 12 Preseason Poll. Colorado is 109-149 (.423) overall in Big 12 conference play.
  • With the re-addition of So. F Tabitha Betson to the 2025-26 roster, the Buffs return four from last year's team, also including Sr. F Jade Masogayo, So. G Kennedy Sanders and 5th C JoJo Nworie. Betson returns from a semester at home with her family after some time to recharge.
  • Colorado welcomes 10 newcomers for the 2025-26 season, five transfers and five freshmen. The five transfers include Jr. G Zyanna Walker (Kansas State), Jr. G Desiree Wooten (North Texas), Jr. G Claire O'Connor (Gonzaga), Jr. G Maeve McErlane (DePaul) and Sr. F Anaëlle Dutat (Rhode Island). The five freshmen include G Erianna Gooden (Fork Smith, Ark./Northside H.S.), C Jade Crook (Albury, Australia/Basketball Australia Center of Excellence/Lake Ginninderra College), G Isa Hämäläinen (Lorentzweiler, Luxembourg/European School of Luxembourg 1), F Logyn Greer (Lansdowne, Pa./Friends' Central School) and F Sophie Zadel (San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights H.S).
  • Fr. F Logyn Greer is 24th in conference for rebounds per game with 6.0 and 16th for blocks per game (0.9). Against Northern Colorado, Greer had 18 points, six rebounds, one assist and one block (Dec. 16).
  • Jr. G Zyanna Walker is fifth in conference for steals per game with 2.5. She is also 21st in the Big 12 for assists per game (3.3) and 19th for assist-to-turnover ratio (1.4). Against UNCo, Walker finished with eight points, five rebounds, four assists and five steals. 
  • Sr. F Anaëlle Dutat is third in conference for rebounds per game with 8.3 and tied for 15th for steals per game (1.9). Dutat had nine points, seven rebounds, two steals, a block and an assist versus the Bears.
  • So. G Kennedy Sanders is also tied for 15th in the Big 12 for steals per game with 1.9.
  • Jr. G Desiree Wooten is 25th in the Big 12 for three-point field goals per game (1.5). Wooten totaled 16 points, one rebound, one assist, a steal and a block against Northern Colorado.
  • Versus UNCo, Sr. F Jade Masogayo had 17 points for the Buffs, as well as five rebounds and three assists.
  • As a team, the Buffs are second in the Big 12 for steals per game (11.58), fourth for free throw percentage (73.6%), fourth for rebounding margin (9.3), fifth for offensive rebounds per game (13.8) and eighth for scoring defense (57.4).

THE (SUN) DEVIL'S IN THE DETAILS: Arizona State and Colorado transitioned into the Big 12 last season, remaining conference opponents after leaving the Pac-12. The Buffs are 15-16 against the Sun Devils all-time, 11-15 in conference play.
 
DOUBLE OR NOTHING: Versus Miami (OH), Fr. F Logyn Greer had her first career double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds (Dec. 14). This was the Buffs' third double-double across this season.
 
MILESTONE CHECK: Sr. F Anaëlle Dutat reached 600 career points against Northern Colorado (Dec. 16).
 
ROLLING DEEP: The Buffs have seen five different starting lineups through the 12 games so far this season, with nine of the 14 rostered players seeing starts.
 
HALFTIME DEFICIT: Or lack thereof! The Buffs have led at the half in all games played this season, with their largest lead at the half being 26 points against Boise State (Nov. 18, 49-23).
 
STACKED SCHEDULE: During the nonconference schedule, the Buffs saw opponents from eight conferences outside of the Big 12: ACC, A-10, Big Sky, CAA, MAC, Mountain West, WAC and SEC. CU finished nonconference play with a 9-3 record, ending on a four-game win streak.
 
#14 MASOGAYO: Sr. F Jade Masogayo comes from a big family in Fort Worth, Texas, with four brothers and one sister. Masogayo is spending her second year with the Buffs after transferring from Missouri State before her junior year.
 
#22 ZADEL: Fr. F Sophie Zadel's dad attended Wake Forest University for football before being drafted to the National Football League by the Dallas Cowboys in 1998. Zadel's dad passed down his love of sports to her as she not only played basketball, but also competed in cheer and track growing up. Outside of sports, Zadel was in orchestra for nine years, where she played the violin.
