BOULDER, Colo. — Athletic Director Rick George has announced the appointment of Curtis Snyder as the Associate Athletic Director for Athletic Communication. This announcement comes after Snyder successfully served as the interim Associate AD following the semi-retirement of David Plati in January.
"Curtis is a true Buff who has done an excellent job leading the athletics communication department through this time of unprecedented media attention," George said. "He's an incredibly hard worker and I'm proud to have him continue our legacy of excellent athletic communicators at the University of Colorado."
Snyder, a CU alumnus and fourth-generation graduate of Boulder High School, has been a part of the University of Colorado athletic department for 24 of the past 29 years. His CU journey began as a student assistant for Plati in the athletic media relations office in 1994, evolving into a full-time assistant Sports Information Director (SID) in 1998, and later as the Internet managing editor.
"This has been my dream job of mine since first stepping into the SID office back in the summer of 1994 when the great David Plati gave me a job as a student-assistant," Snyder said. "Special thanks to Dave, along with other mentors in my life including Tommy Sheppard, Jon Jackson and Tim Simmons, and countless others who have helped me pave this career path. I'd like to express my gratitude to Rick George and Alexis Williams for their continued support and trust in me for this position, both as the interim and now with that taken off. Rest assured I will do all in my power to continue the excellence this office has produced with the multiple Hall of Famers that came before me."
After spending five years at Duke as the Director of Internet Operations, Snyder returned as the associate sports information director in 2008 and served as the secondary contact for football while also working with the National Championship caliber CU Ski team. Snyder's expertise extends beyond the realms of communication, as he will serve as the championship co-director for the 2024 NCAA Skiing Championships, his third in that role for the NCAA Ski Championships.
Snyder was named an assistant athletic director in 2018 upon returning to the SID office after creating and heading CU's digital department from 2015-18. Since January, he has taken over as the lead communicator for the football team and also began working with the CU tennis team.
Apart from his professional achievements, Snyder has a deep personal connection with CU. A Boulder native, his family legacy with the university dates back to his grandparents, with his grandmother graduating in 1929. A grandfather, both of his parents and his sister also attended CU. Snyder's dedication to CU is further reflected in his marriage to Kami Carmann, a former CU women's basketball team captain and four year letterwinner. The couple resides in Erie and has three children, twins Lucy and Sam and son Cooper.
