Becomes third Buff to earn the honor

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Colorado senior Shyra James was named Third Team All-America by the United Soccer Coaches on Friday. The honor is the first for the Buffaloes since 2019.

James becomes the third Colorado striker to earn All-American status, joining two-time selections Fran Munnelly (2004, 05) and Taylor Kornieck (2018, 19).

"This is a fantastic honor for Shyra," head coach Danny Sanchez commented. "She was the dominant striker in the Pac-12 this year and came up huge in many matches for us. Individual accolades are always a reflection of the team as a whole.  Shyra's performance helped push us to the NCAA Tournament and we couldn't be happier for her."

James, a La Mesa, Calif., native, finished the year with career highs in goals (15) and points (32). She scored four game-winning goals, helping the Buffs back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2020. James sits eighth in the NCAA in goals this season and 16th in points while leading the Pac-12 in both categories. She is also 11th in the NCAA in goals per game (0.75) and fifth in the nation with 4.65 shots per game.

The 5-8 forward started 17 matches and played in all 20 this season. She had two multi-goal games this season and scored in seven straight matches, setting the program record for a single-season streak. Her 15 goals and 32 points are second in a single season, trailing Nikki Marshall's 37 points and 17 goals in 2006.

Her 93 shots this season tie Anne Stuller (2013) for second-most in a single season, while 40 shots on goal are tied for fifth. James fired off 12 shots against Arizona this season, tying Kornieck who also had 12 against Arizona in 2017 for the most shots in a game.

James recorded 86 points in her four years at CU, climbing up to third all-time behind Kornieck (102) and Marshall (93). Her 40 goals are the second-most by a Buff, trailing only Marshall's 42, and rank 14th among active DI players. James scored 0.53 goals per game in her 76-game career, setting a new CU record. Her 10 game-winning goals are tied for fifth in school history and her 3.16 shots per game is good for fourth best by a Buff.

This is just the latest postseason honor for James. She was also a first-team All-Pac-12 selection and a first-team All-Pacific Region honoree.
