Buffs Finish Juli Inkster Invite In 12th

March 07, 2023 | Women's Golf

FAIRFAX, Calif. — The University of Colorado women's golf team finished the day where it started, placing 12th on the final leaderboard of the 2023 Juli Inkster at Meadow Club Invitational, Tuesday.

The Buffaloes shot 38-over par, 902, at the 54-hole event played at the 6,157-yard Course at Meadow Club north of San Francisco.

Top-ranked Stanford took the team title at 6-under, 858, five strokes better than USC. Co-host San Jose State was third at 3-over, 867.

Tuesday began with the completion of the second round, which was suspended due to darkness on Monday after a day of wet grounds and a one-hour, five-minute rain delay. Players had anywhere from eight to 12 holes left in the second round when play was called.

After pausing at 19-over on Monday, Colorado had a strong start on Tuesday, playing the rest of the round at 1-over. The Buffaloes moved up to 10th place after two rounds at 20-over. Colorado had identical scores of 10-over, 298, in rounds one and two, its best rounds of the spring season.

Colorado fell back to 12th in the third round, shooting 18-over, 306, the highest score in the field for the final 18 holes.

Sophomore Lauren Gooding had Colorado's top finish, tying for 24th place at 6-over, 222. After finishing her second round at 4-over, 76, she had the Buffaloes best third round at 1-over, 73, matching her first-round score. Gooding had four birdies in the final round and stayed within a stroke of even the entire afternoon as she finished with Colorado's low 54-hole score for the third time this year.

Freshman Morgan Miller tied for 27th, one stroke back of Gooding at 7-over, 223. Miller had Colorado's low score in the each of the first two rounds and was in 13th place at 1-over through 36 holes. Miller ended up with par on 15 of 18 holes in the second round. She fell out of the top 20 with a 78 in the final round.

Sophomore Natalie Vo tied for 58th place at 14-over, 230. Vo had her best of three rounds in the second at 3-over 75. She was already at 3-over when play was suspended on Monday, but stayed even over the final eight holes of her round once play resumed. Vo couldn't quite keep that momentum going in the final round, carding a 7-over, 79, to end the tournament.

Graduate senior Haylin Harris finished tied for 70th at 19-over, 235. Harris and Vo had similar starts to their respective Tuesdays. Harris was 2-over through 12 holes when play stopped on Monday and she resumed play by recording par on the final six holes to wrap up her round. She finished the day with a 4-over, 76, in the final round.

Junior Hailey Schalk finished in 72nd place at 23-over 239. She completed her second round at 10-over, 82, and cut a pair of strokes off in the third round, finishing at 8-over, 80.

"Overall not the finish we were looking for," Colorado head coach Anne Kelly said. "Lauren and Morgan played pretty well. Morgan had a rough start but had a strong finish. Lauren fought hard all day and was consistent. Haylin made a nice comeback after struggling in the first round."

Stanford's Rose Zhang took medalist honors at 11-under, 205, two strokes better than San Jose State's Kaisa Arwefjall.

Colorado resumes its spring season, March 24-26, at the PING/ASU Invitational at the Papago Golf Course in Phoenix, which will also serve as the site of the 2023 Pac-12 Championship in April.
