Williams To Attend USA Basketball U19 Training Camp

BOULDER – University of Colorado incoming freshman Cody Williams was named one of 35 athletes invited to participate in the 2023 USA U19 Men's National Team Training Camp, USA Basketball announced on Wednesday.
Williams will be vying for a spot on the 12-member team that will represent the United States at the 2023 FIBA U19 Men's World Cup Championship, scheduled for June 24-July 2 in Debrecen, Hungary. Camp begins June 11 at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.
Athletes attending training camp were selected by the USA Basketball Men's Junior National Team Committee. To be eligible, athletes must be U.S. citizens, born on or after Jan. 1, 2004.
Williams, a 6-foot, 8-inch, 180-pound small forward from Gilbert, Ariz., is a Naismith and McDonald's High School All-American. A recent graduate of Perry High School, he led the Pumas to the 2022-23 Arizona State Open Division title after winning the 6A crown as a junior in 2021-22.
A five-star recruit, Williams participated in the McDonald's All-American Game on Mar. 28 in Houston and the USA Men's Nike Hoop Summit on Apr. 8, in Portland. He is Colorado's first five-star recruit since David Harrison and listed as the No. 1 recruit in the class of 2023 by On3.com. Williams is rated the No. 7 player in the nation by ESPN100, 247Sports and Rivals.
Nearly half of the athletes attending the U19 Training Camp have prior USA Basketball experience. Ten invitees have won a gold medal as a member of a USA Basketball junior national team. This will be Williams' first experience with USA Basketball.
Colorado's Tad Boyle will serve as head coach of the U19 Men's National Team at the World Cup. Court coaches for the Training Camp are Jonas Hayes (Georgia State), Kevin Kruger (UNLV), TJ Otzelberger (Iowa State) and Micah Shrewsberry (Notre Dame).
